I was just wondering if anyone looking at this chews and spits food...never swallows. I do it pretty often, so I'm curious if there are any dangers to this and if it's a common thing or kind of rare. If anyone has info on it that would be great.

I've done it a few times, though I hear you might as well eat the doggone food because even if you don't swallow, you still retain so much percent of calories/fat. I'm curious like you are, so I'm going to research it. If I find anything useful and if this site allows, I'll send you a website.

Welcome to the board. We're glad you're here.

I also heard the same thing...that you can actually gain weight from this, but so far I haven't. In fact, I've lost. That's why I'm so curious. I'm also trying to do some research, so I will also let you know if I find anything. Or I will post it on here. Thanks so much, and thanks for the welcome.

I used to the same thing and I've heard that it is actually quite common for ED people to do that. I've heard it a lot. We do some crazy/weird things!

Thanks! I feel slightly better knowing that at least I'm not some strange freak of nature or anything. Yah, we do do some crazy and strange things. But I guess you'll do just about anything when you're desperate enough.

Could my sore throat possibly be caused by doing this too often?

Not by spitting it out. Probably if you puke it out.

Hello, I've been anorexic for 5 years and last years, especially this year I do it every day. I had period when I stopped, but that was wehn I was emotionally stable. I mean I had a wonderful relationship.
Now I've started again. It's an every day ritual.
I didn't gain weight, infact I lost it.
Ut's the same as puking . and when you puke you loose weight.
I don't know.
Try to figure out when it is most intense. I mean is it when you have stressful situation??
I know that my C&S and AE are getting worse when I have problems...

It's a nasty habbit/ritual. And I feel gulity because that's THE FOOD:: And people are starving....

I do not have an eating disorder, but do "chew & spit" whenever I want to lose weight. For me, it works great. I still get to enjoy the flavor of any food I want and not gain weight. I typically lose about one pound per day doing this.

Laydee,

Overtime this has turned into an everyday ritual for me too. Sometimes it even seems to take over my life because my mind knows that that is the only time I will be able to taste food.

I mostly do it at night. I'm not sure if it's any worse when I'm in a stressful situation. I think maybe a little because food is a comfort but I won't let myself actually have it, so by doing this, at least the taste is somewhat of a comfort.

I also feel terrible when I think about it. I'm kind of selfish wasting all that food, but I can't seem to help it.

I hope that we will find our inner peace.

Is this an anorexic or bulimic behavior?

I do it a lot. A lot lot lot.

I think it could be seen as both an anorexic and bulimic behavior.

Thanks. I was just really curious about it. It's something I do a lot lot lot now too. I don't know how I could ever get over it. It's kind of a part of my life now.
