My 1 year old granddaughter is allergic to milk and has not tasted many foods that other toddlers at this stage eat. She was 6'8" at birth, and is very petite. Only weighs 17 1/4 lbs. She is very active, walking, and developmentally normal for her age. She just does not love to eat. She eats mostly baby food stage 2 (many stage 3's have milk) but is starting to gag at these. We try to offer her different foods that she CAN have like eggs for protein, and meats, vegetables like potatoes, beans, broccoli, carrots. Sometimes she will try them , but mostly she just shakes her head and spits it out. If we let her hold it, she will smash it in her hand and then thow it on the floor and say "uh oh".. My daughter worries so about her weight and the fact that she's not a good eater. Not being able to have cheese, milk, yogurt, etc doesn't help either. Does anyone have a similar experience and should we be worried that she is off the chart weight-wise?

Have they taken her to a peds gastro specialist and is it truly a dairy allergy? Sometimes kids outgrow these things. A specialist might be able to refer your daughter to a dietician and figure out ways to sneak in calories. Our child has a genetic disorder and we really have to push to get him to eat, but he's able to eat dairy products. But when he was younger the dietician gave us a recipe to bump up the calories in his formula. DS also has problems with texture -- hates ground meat. He's 1 1/2 years, but I still give him babyfood, 'cuz I can shovel it in pretty fast. I also add margarine to his babyfood veggies to sneak in some extra calories.

My son and your grandaughter seem to be two peas in a pod. He is 11 months old, weighs 17 pounds, won't eat anything that is not sweet. He is also allergic to milk, (just found out its a true allergy from testing) I am also at a loss, if you figure anything out PLEASE let me know.

HI! 2 out of my 3 children are allergic to milk. We give soy milk instead of cow milk. Also you can get veggie cheese, hotdogs, yogurt, etc...at the regular grocery store. Usually I find it in the produce section but it is located differently at all grocery stores. (a bit more expensive but worth it when your child eats it and loves it) I give my children small amounts of food items that contain cow milk in them. Our pedi doc says that this will build up a tolerence and the kids will be able to tolerate cow milk in the future. Also pedi doc says to give egg whites not the yolks because they contain some of the same protiens that cow milk contains. My kids will take a salad over a cookie any day, any time. Just keep trying different things. My youngest child is a girl born 4 weeks premature. Weighed 7'9 at birth and is now 15 months old and weighs in at 30 pounds. Yes that's a bit much...however she's tall and healthy. She's not a fat baby. My other child is a boy, 6yrs old. He's tall also and weighs almost 60 pounds. Keep offering different foods. Things will work themselves out.
