My 3 mth old baby last night went to bed at 9:30pm and did not wake up all night. I woke up at 6 and saw him still asleep. I got worried so i made a bottle and gave it to him which he drank. Then he went back to sleep and woke up at 9am. Is this normal for a 3mth old baby?
Your experiences will be really appreciated.

First time mom! :)

Hi. My baby will be 3 months next week and he's been sleeping through the night since he was 2 months old. At first, like you I was worried and fed him in his sleep. Then I realized that if he wasn't waking for a bottle he wasn't hungry so I let him sleep. My son falls asleep anywhere between 10 - 12 at night and he doesn't wake up until close to 10 in the morning! I am happy that I get to sleep through the night but only wish he would go to bed earlier like your baby and get up at 9! As long as your baby is at a healthy weight you should not be worried at all -- you should be counting your lucky stars!

My baby too will turn 3 mths on 4th jan.

How many ounces does your baby have before you put him to bed or are you nursing?
My baby usually takes 5-6 ounces before going to bed. He does not nap very well during the day. He takes short naps of 20-30 mins every 2-3 hrs.

Any similar pattern with your baby too. Its such a relief to know that your baby also sleeps through the night.

Thanks for your reply.

My son will be 3 months on the 3rd! He's always had a big appetite (doubled his birth weight by 2 months old) so each bottle I make is filled to 7 ounces (6 bottles a day), whether he drinks it all or not. Sometimes he drinks 8 oz before bed and other times he's gone down after only 5. With him I've noticed it's not so much the amount of the last bottle as it is the total combined ounces he has had during the day, and if he gets "ripped off" he WILL wake up for it. He was at one point drinking 42 ounces in a day! Now if he has had at least 38 ounces throughout the day, he is happy and will sleep through the night. Also now, when he wakes up he has a huge smile on his face and wants to play a bit before he eats. It used to drive me crazy before when he would wake up starving -- I could never get that nipple in his mouth fast enough!

My baby's sleeping patterns sound identical to yours. We are lucky because our babies have already achieved the goal of sleeping less through the day and straight through the night!

My baby girl will be four months old on the 13 and she has been sleeping through the night since she was 2 months old. At first she was taking 4 oz every two hour during the day. Then sleep through the night. About a week ago she went to 6 oz every 4 hours during the day and then sleeps throught the night. So 4 6oz bottles a day. The feeding thing was werid. I had been trying to get her on the every four hour schedule for a while. She wanted nothing to do with it. Then all the sudden one week she started taking more and waiting longer. She wakes up around 6am thats when i usually get up to get ready for work. Takes a bottle usually stays awake until we get in the car to go to daycare. Falls a sleep then and wakes again around 9 or so and is up until 12 or 1 and takes a 2 hour nap and then she is up until bed time around 8 or so. She has to have that nap or she is a fuss bucket.

I think i got happy too soon. He did not sleep again through the night. I guess he will get there when he is ready!

Its great your babies are eating so well. When do you plan to start solids?
My baby has 4oz every 3 hrs during the day and sometimes asks for more. I feed him on demand.

My little guy woke up a night or 2 in the beginning as well :) .
I started giving him a little rice cereal at 2 months because his appetite was humongous. Even a wee teaspoon a day makes a huge difference! I've also given him a little mashed banana but he didn't like it. I'll feed him real solids at around 6 months.

I have been giving my little girl a tablespoon of rice cereal for every 4oz since she was about 2 weeks old. That is when we found out she has reflux. I have read that any where from 4-6 months is normal time frame to start soild foods. So i am thinking my doctor my recommend that we start that this month. She has told us the heavier the food the better for our little girl. It stays down easier then formula would. That is why they recommened that we put the cereal in her formula. So she wouldn't have that projectile spit up thing. This reflux is horrible. I feel so bad for her. I will be suprised if the doctor doesn't have us start her on soilds this month. Right now she is eating 18-24 oz a day. She will be four months old this month. Does that sound right for her age. I know everyone is different, but for some reason i think she should be eating a little more. Since the cereal is mixed in maybe not. My first baby. Anyways she only wakes up during the night if she isn't feeling well, which i think would be normal for anyone not feeling well.

You know come to think of it, my little guy gets reflux with most bottles but never with the nighttime/cereal bottle! I am going to give him one in the afternoon now as well, to see if that helps. You can't judge if the amount of formula your baby is taking in comparison to others. Each child requires a different amount! You can only tell by her health and growth. :)

My first child did that and life was great. Now my second was and still is a different story. She's now two and still doesn't sleep all night. Enjoy it and don't count on your next on being the same way.

I think its true that all babies are different. Being a first time mom is very overwhemling sometimes.

Like for the past few days my baby has been rubbing/pulling his right ear. I called the nurse and she told me as long as he is eating, sleeping and no fever then he is fine. It could be he is discovering his body parts or his skin is too dry so i have been putting a lot of vasline which seems to have helped.

Being winters the skin gets so dry. What do you all use to give baby a bath and what kind of lotion you are using? I am using Johsons head to toe to give him a bath and baby oil for massage and vaseline.

I give my baby a bath every night and use Gerber shampoo and baby dove soap. I do not use any creams on his body, with the exception of vaseline to protect him from diaper rash. His skin is beautiful except for his face -- he was born 10 days overdue so his face was very dry! I was putting vaseline every night on his face but it didn't help much so the dr. prescribed some hydrocortisone 1%, and it has made a huge difference!

Incidentally, I was told that if a baby tugs on his ear it usually indicates an ear infection. Then again, when my son's face was extremely dry he used to rub it ALL THE TIME!

all four of my babies slept through the night when they were 1 day old! good rule of thumb is "never wake a sleeping baby!"
