There is a vicious upper respiratory bug going around that lasts about 3 weeks or longer.
You need to be properly diagnosed, because, if you have strep throat it could lead to serious damage to vital organs, especially the heart.
If it is a bacterial infection, taking antibiotics will help. If it is a virus it will have to run it's course, but, in the process bacterial infection can set in along the way in addition to the virus.
I have the same thing and it has caused "tracheal bronchitis" a few steps away from pneumonia. It is a must to have your chest listened to in order to rule out walking pneumonia or other type of pneumonia.
Better to be safe than sorry.
The upper respiratory bug going around now is a serious one, most likely antibiotic resistant or who knows what. Doctors seem to be baffled on how to treat it. My opthamologist told me today he had this bug for 3 weeks. He consumed lots of vitamin C. I cannot drink or eat enough fruit due to being diabetic, so, that is not an option for me. Yes, diabetics can have some fruit but not enough to do any good to combat a bug.
Hope you will feel better soon.
Remember, this bug as well as others can be spread to others merely by someone walking into the same air space you have been breathing, coughing, sneezing. Bugs remain in the air space 10-15 minutes. Try to stay away from others in order to not pass the bug on to them but also so you do not pick up another bug to go along with the one you have since your immune system is compromised right now with the bug you already have.

Both my doctor and my children's pediatrician have told me that cold symptoms lasting longer than 10 days in an adult or teenager and longer than 14 days in a child indicates that it is probably a bacterial infection. You may need antibiotics to get over it.
Hope you feel better soon!

I've been dealing with something similar now for almost amonth, I don't feel sick but I don't feel good. Feel like someone poured sand down my airways. I have to say it is getting better but also it flared my GERD up again to so it was a double whammy. I guess there is some respiratory bug that won't go away easily out there.

sounds familiar. i've just gotten over a bout of strep throat. although i wasn't completly properly diagnosed. i had an incredibly sore throat over the holidays, losing my voice, coughing blood... (i get strep throat often though!). so, instead of taking tests, she decided to give me some penicillin as she felt it was more then just a viral infection. i had that for about 2 weeks or so and now it has turned into a horrible cough of gross tasting things and a tiny vibration in my chest.. which i believe in a few days i might get checked out. maybe this is the same bug although i live up in canada and am the only one i know who has this.. strange how these things work. though i think the others have given good advice ;) might be best to just be sure..in case :)
