I'm a male here who have given a woman oral on monday, and around wednesday my throat started bothering me a bit. I thought it was from being out without a jacket for a bit on monday night (it was pretty cold in ny) but I can't help to be a little bit nervous. I haven't had any STD type symptoms other than a sore throat, and it is feeling a bit better. You think I'm being too nervous? I'm gonna see a doctor on monday to get antibiotics. Should I tell the doc about my experience or just let him give me medication for a cold (usually Zithromax) and just assume it wasn't anything STD related? Any advice or comments would help.

It is always better to tell you doctor what you think it is. A test can always be done to determine if it really is an STD or not.

Definitely go see the doctor to be on the safe side and make sure that you get the proper attention. Is this girl a virgin? If she is than you probably have little to worry about.

Like you said though, it could just be the common cold or sore throat as this is the season for sickness! I'd try taking something over the counter and see how it works out in the mean time.

hey...this is actually a pretty old post from a while ago...but I figured I should post this follow up.

I had gone to see the doctor and told him about my experience and he told me I shouldn't have anything to worry about. He looked in my throat, gave me some Zithromax, and for a while I was feeling good. Then my sore throat came back. And now, it's been on and off without it ever getting completely better...it's really weird. What's even worst is that a week after my appointment, I hooked up with this girl around mid january (a different one from before) and we've had sex...both protected and unprotected (but I never came in her, and she was the first person I had vaginal sex with). Now...I know I'm all right down there, but I did give her oral. And today, she told me she had been feeling nauseous and she threw up once. I just want an opinion...is it possible that my doctor misdiagnosed me and maybe I did contract an oral std AND give it to my girlfriend. I really hope that's not the case and I know that I'm probably making nothing out of something...but just that thought in the back of my head...ugh.

Edit: Almost forgot. A couple of days after I had sex, these red bumps appear on the head of the penis. They didn't hurt or anything, they were just red bumps (they didn't hurt or anything...they were just there). Now, I looked that up online and read that it was just probably from friction and that it should go away in a couple of days, and they did and haven't returned. Should I still be worried about that?

Oof...man, youre gonna give yourself an ulcer. You need to relax a bit. A sore throat could be from a gazillion things. If its recurring, it might be a sinus problem.

I would ask why you had unprotected sex though. Not to get all preachy, but having unprotected sex with someone youve only known since January is way too soon. Has she been with anyone before? Is she on the pill? As far as stds go, it really doesnt matter whether you came in her or not.

As far as the doc misdiagnosing you, I doubt he did. However, even if he did, Zithromax is a pretty strong antibiotic that would kill several stds. Like I said earlier, if your sore throat came back after the Zithromax, you might have sinus problems or have just gotten another cold.

Sorry, must've worded my relationship with her wrong. We've known each other for years and pretty much reconciled in January. She's was a virgin and so was I (Vaginal anyways).

You could have a sore throat from a non-STD reason, as presumably if you had sex with this girl, you also kissed her. The kissing would be much more likely to cause a throat infection than the sex.

Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis, Syphilis, Chancroid, Crabs, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, HPV/Warts, Scabies, Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) - these probably the most common. As far as infertility, it varies; some may get the complications within a few days, while for others it may take a few weeks or even a few months. Chlamydia can easily be treated with antibiotics. This is why it is important to treat the infection.
