Hi - I'm new to this board. I have not been diagnosed with GERD yet but I seem to have all the symptoms. My upper GI was negative for hiatal hernia and I wasn't refluxing at the time of the GI. I am at the point where everything I eat causes burning and I have no desire to eat anything and cause more burning. I'm forcing down crackers and Gatorade. Does anyone else have this problem? I am experiencing burning from my throat down to my upper stomach. My stomach is very sore and I also have diarrhea. Some foods seem to be worse for me so I am trying to stick to only bland things. Even milk causes heavy burning for me. Do these symptoms all sound like GERD??? I just started Prevacid. When can I expect that to help? One more question...will Maalox interfere with the Prevacid? Thank you.

Sounds like reflux to me. I have everything but the diaarhea. I was diagnosed in Sept with Barrett's esophagus (no cell changes tho) none of the medicenes are working for my GERD and this is going on since Sept on and off mostly on. prilosec, aciphex, prevaced protonix and now I'm finishing up my 3 week sample of nexium and it still hasn't put out the fire from my throat to the stomach, I'm about to give up, I can't afford to keep the damge going with Barretts and I don't want the surgery if at all possible. This sucks, I hate to eat cuz no matter what it is the burn gets hotter, if I don't eat it is milder. If that gold plated nexium can't do the trick what will? I did try a Yogi Tea yesterday for digestion aid and it seemed to help better than the pills, but it is back again today. You can have anti acids like maalox, zantac etc when taking prevaced, nexiums etc, in fact I down anti acids, zantac and nexium throughout the day and it still doesn't help! It's causing airway problems and everything, they say don't mess around with the stuff but when you try everything and it doesn't work then what?

Nancy - I totally agree. When it's the middle of the night and you haven't been able to sleep because your chest and throat are on fire, it's time to take antacid. The other night I took Maalox Max Antacid/AntiGas and it really helped.

Do you also get lightheaded at all, like the acid is somehow getting into your head? Sometimes my sinuses feel like they have acid in them. Any thoughts on what this means?

I have gerd and I have noticed when I have the burning coming up my throat,that my left arm becomes numb and inflammed, any Ideas, I take previcid and pepcid.

I ju st found this post..My mom has this exact same problem!She was diagnosed with the barretts as well just a few months ago.No cell changes either ..thankfully!!Anyway..the doc found out she has gallbladder problems as well {sludge in there}and prescribed her an antispasmodic med and she takes it before she eats and it has given her much relief!!She was just like you guys ,couldnt eat anything with excessive burping gerd all day long!
It wouldnt hurt to ask your doc about this!

I havent talked to you in a while..Sorry to hear about your arm..I have no idea why it would be doing that!I hope you asked your doc about it...
Otherwise how is everything goign for you?

How is everything going? I hope all is well. I still have the same problems with back and nerve pain, and now this arm is driving me nuts .I had a mri done last week and go back to the dr. on the 16th. and see how it went. If I can get cortison shots instead of surgery, I will try that. We got a little snow this morning, I cant wait till winter is over, I am sick of the cold.So you seem to be a little better, thats great, I still dont know what they are going to do with me at work, with evaluation saying I can hardly work 3 hours, I sont see them letting me come back. I have a problem because I work for the city and they donot take out ss, so I dont have enough credits, so I have to see what kind of program they have, I will leave that up to my lawyer. Well I hope all is well and will write later.
