I will try to make this short, but I know it will turn out to be a book, so please bear with me.

I have been through some unbelievable stress during the past three years. We had two cross country moves due to my husband getting layed off. I do not have any family or close friends nearby. (who wants to get to know the woman that is in pain, and crying all of the time!!)

After moving this last time, (and, this was one month after the move--not due to strenuous work!!) these are the symptoms that have come up:

* Achy wrist, hand, and elbow joints
* Achy knees and foot joints
* Tight, achy muscles
* Extreme Fatigue
* On and off numbness/tingling all over body (from head to toe).
* Insomnia
* Depression
* Anxiety attacks (because I am afraid I have ALS)
* Wrist joints ache, then feel better once I crack them.
* All joints crack constantly, with or without pain.
* Chest tightness

I have had an MRI that ruled out MS, and a neurological exam so far. My neurologist saw how upset I was, and prescribed Paxil, but after hearing many Paxil horror stories, I made the doctor change the script to Lexapro. Going to a Rheumatologist next week.

I am so afraid I have ALS. What could this be?

Hi LUVMYKIDS! :wave:

What were the findings from the visit to the Rheumy doc?

Have your physicians informed you of what they suspect?

I understand how uprooting your family to keep up where the jobs are is a very strenous task! Our country has really changed in the last few decades where we are constantly scrambling to try and earn a living. Seems that we are not able to get comfortable or feel secure with any job situation but always waiting for the axe to fall--whatever that saying is. It makes matters worse when someone in our family ends up getting ill too!

Looking forward to hearing from you. :p

This may sound like too simple a solution, but what about your thyroid? Quite a few of the symtoms you list are familiar --- I'm hypo thyroid and I have over half of the same ones you listed.

Good luck, Sharon

Many things can be causeing your problems, get full blood work done, that would be best.

Hi there LUVMYKIDS

I have the same thing. I also had an MRI to test for other things and it came back all clear.
I went and seen a Neuro and he diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia.
There is a section for it on the Healthboards.
You can also find loads of information on the Internet. There is a support group called [removed].

I'm sure you'll find out sooner than later but it sounds exactly the same as me.

Goodluck

About 12 years ago, I had just had a baby and was moving. I started to not feel well, achy joints and muscles and tingling in my body, severe fatigue and dizziness or just feeling like I'm not there.....very strange. First the doctor said my heart was irregular, then he said my organs (thyroid, liver, pancreas, etc) were all enlarged, but nothing else wrong with them. He did some testing and found it was something called Cytemeglo(sp?) Virus (they call it CMV) . . . he told me it was a virus that could last months and there was nothing they could do. I went to a 2nd doctor who said I also had EBV (Epstein-Barr Virus) which ended up causing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I was sick for MONTHS and one of the main things was the aching joints and muscles and weakness and the tingling feeling all over my body. I thought I was going to die. Anyway, the doctor told me to try and walk every day and keep up my energy and it took several months but I ended up OK. So, I'm thinking there is a possibility this is some type of virus. . . . when I got the Cytemeglo and EBV viruses, I read up on them and it said somehow it can be caused by stress, like when you have a new baby, you move or change jobs - which I did 2 out of the 3. Just thought I'd give this suggestion.
Take care.
