Question about period [Archive] - HealthBoards Message Boards

I was suppose to start my pills 3 weeks ago but I haven't been able to buy them yet(rent, bilss, blah blah blah) anyways I'm suppose to get my period next week. Last week this discharge came out (it was kinda clear and stretchy) and unfortunately I had sex twice this month (the first 2 weeks of not being on pill) this is my third week, and then next week I get my period. My question is (well questions) : is there a chance now I could be pregnant(discharge?) , and after next week can I just start my new pack like normal or do i need to see the doctor first or what? Please help

There is a chance of pregnancy since you missed all those pills. Your cycle is a bit screwed up now so I am not sure when you will get your period. The discharge could be pregnancy or it could from a withdrawal from the hormone. I would take a pregnancy test, if it comes back negative than I think it be okay to start your pills when you are scheduled to.

I think stretchy discharge usually means you are ovulating

thanks for your help. I'll have to call my doc to be sure then (about starting the pills) and maybe i should get a preg. test done just to be sure I'm not. and about the discharge, that's what i thought maybe, it's just I've never experienced it before. I've never had discharge come out, but it could be from not being on the pills i guess huh?! which is why I was unsure

yes, stretchy discharge normally means you are at your fertile point eg ovulation, if i were you i would get a first response as they can detect pregnancy 3 days prior to your period, i would do this first, see what the results are and then get in touch with your doctor.

thanks very much RMS and Sammie. That's what I figured (about the discharge). I've been on the pill since i was 15(21 now) so i never experienced this discharge before. But then I seen that you had mentioned it's cause I'm ovulating so i just put the two together. And you say i should get first response? So that means i don't have to wait until next week to see if i get my period, i can do it now? and if i don't get my period there's only one answer right??? I'm pregnant.

Yes, first response allows you to test 3 days before your period is due so you can test then, if it comes up negative and your period still doesnt show say, 5 days later do another and if that says negative id go to the doctor. Dont forget that if you are strssing over anything eg period being late then you may delay it, confusing i know but unfortunately thats how our bodies work.

thanks sammie. it is really confusing. and if i am i'll need someone to talk to. I'm not sure how i'm going to get it though (i had to use my paycheck on rent) I just got enough so i could pay it. I'll try calling one of our clinics tomorrow. Maybe they can give me a free test or something. (my doc lives half an hour away and i don't have a car) Yes please check back in a couple days, hopefully I'll know something by then
