View Full Version : Arachnoid Cysts????

I went to the neurologist yesterday morning, and presented him with my symptoms. For the last 4 years, I have suffered from extreme balance problems, lethargy, headaches (bizarre headaches, on the upper right side of my head), and vision changes. I do have an MRI scheduled for Tuesday, which terrifies me. The neuro told me it could be a cerebral arachnoid cyst. Does anyone know exactly what this is and can you share you story with me, please? I'd appreciate it!

hello all. can relate. i have had a severe headache for a month now which has totally disabled me in that i can not do ANYTHING that requires exertion because the pain gets worse and it feels like my head will explode. well anyway, in trying to find reason for headache, i had mri which showed that i have a non functioning pituitary tumor AND an arachnoid cyst. To my horror, my neurologist, a neurosurgeon and a brain tumor specialist all agreed that i do not require surgery to remove either because they are NOT the cause of my headache pain and they are too small to remove at this time. HOWEVER, i was also informed to watch for any vision problems or change in headache pain or the onset of any other problems because the cyst and the tumor will have to removed "sooner than later" but not right now. i was just reading last night that if an arachnoid cyst goes untreated it could cause severe medical problems. i guess my drs want me to get very close to an emergency situation before they are willing to help. its too bad that these drs fear to do their jobs. i believe alot of it has to do with malpractice suits. anyway, i will keep everyone posted. i have been put on elavil for the headache pain, told to stay home from work for 2 more weeks, go back to neurologist in 6 weeks and in meantime have family dr order heart test just to rule out every other reason for me to have such severe head pain. c ya later.

I was also told to have tons of heart test done ... ALL so far have come back fine! i don't understand why they don't think the cyst has anything to do with the headaches, it blows my mind ..haha. the dr didn't even tell me how big mine was when we found out about it, just told me to follow it up with another dr, they annoy me!

Hello everyone. My name is Chris and I am a 23 year old male. I had a CT Scan done about 2 weeks ago for bad headaches which started about a year and 1 month ago and the Dr. said that I have a brain cyst on the left side temple. They are determining that it is an Arachnoid Cyst that is 2.4cm. I am currently taking Fioricet for my pains but it doesn't always help when the headaches get REAL bad. I am scheduled to see a Neurologists but the soonest I can see him won't be until November 20. I also have a heart condition called WPW or Wolf Parkinson White but after seeing 2 cardiologist they've determined that I'm not symptomatic. I am totally baffled about the Cyst and am really impatient to see that Neurologists. I was told that there were no Brain Tumors but I want to make sure that I do have what they are suggesting I have. I am currently planning to fly out to Hawaii and get a second opinion at the Straub Hospital which is highly recommended here from relatives and co-workers of mine. I am gonna leave for home but will try to get back online again tonight. If anyone has any comforting news and advice I would REALLY REALLY appreciate.

Hi all

I can relate to all of what you guys are going through. On September 17, my 13 year old son had a complex partial seizure while at school. At the hospital they discovered the arachnoid cyst and right now we are awaiting a second MRI to see if the cyst is changing. The *** website is great but for some reason they have banned AOL or yahoo email addresses from joining. I happen to live in NH and if the second MRI shows changes in the cyst I will be taking my son to Mass General for the surgery he will need on the cyst. I would love to hear what your stories and experiences are. Right now my son is on an anti seizure medicine called Deprecote. I look forward to hearing from others here as I cannot post on the *** board.

Lisa,
If you would like to join the *** site and be able to post questions, you may want to try and open an e-mail account that is free. Such as Hotmail, etc. Then you will be able to get a password and post questions. The site is wonderful. It has helped me with my own neuro problems, colloid cyst of the third ventricle, as well as helped me with understanding when my sister was diagnosed with Arnold Chiari and required surgery.

Good Luck to you, and I hope you find support, Dodi
