Hello, I've posted a few times previously. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced a kind of "buzzing" in their feet or elsewhere? I notice a buzzing/pulsing/tingling mainly in my left foot, some tingling/buzzing in my right thigh (along with muscle twitches). I didn't know if this was one of the many wonderful peri symptoms, or if anyone else has had this. I have read where some people have had "internal trembling", but am not sure if they resemble each other. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

I guess the choice of words many of us use to describe our symtpoms can vary so much...but if your "buzzing" is what I think it is, I could say I had it but I called it "pins & needles" "like ants crawling" "like when your foot fallen asleep" "the foot doesn't feel the floor like it normally does" - it was also on my left foot only, and was constant that lasted for several months. So, does this help?

Yes! I had this in my left pinky and my left foot to start. I described it to docs as feeling like a 'faint electric current'. Shortly after that started I also got random muscle twitches/spasms. More recently I get the 'trembling' sensations. It all seems to be connected!

Hi Beck,
I had the "trembling" or rather internal shaking sensations before and for a much longer time than the 'tingling' left foot. The foot thing was one of the last things I had that was weird to me. The internal trembling was really scary and unbearable. It hit me hard esp. in the middle of the night - my whole body would be vibrating inside and would last for hours - way into morning sometimes. I got to the point where I was scare to go to sleep each night not knowing what I was to happen to me in the middle of the night. At that time, I didn't know of any women having this and my dr. was clueless - they really should include this symptom in more peri-meno symptoms lists and books.

Thank you both for your quick responses! Becky, I have also described it as feeling like an "electric current" and also like I have my foot against a refridgerator or something electrical running. It isn't constant but when it's buzzing it is very annoying. I also have random muscle twitches and spasms-have for about 6 months now! Needless to say, it has been very scary! I am 41, and had no idea that it could be peri related! I have been to one neuroligist (couldn't find anything wrong) and am scheduled to go to another one later this month. Again, thank you both. It is very reassuring to know I'm not alone!

Buzzing and trembling...oh yeah, I've had both. The buzzing isn't quite as unpleasant as the internal tremors. I used to get those tremors alot at night too. It was like a wave which started in my feet and "rolled" upwards...very weird. However, I've found that, unbelievably, since I started taking a multi-vitamin everyday, those tremors have just about fully subsided.
I kind of came to the conclusion that I was totally exhausted and that my body was getting completely depleted of everything that used to come naturally to keep it going. Without having a medical degree (LOL) I have to believe that all of these hormonal swings just take a terrible toll on our systems. I NEVER was one to take a vitamin....ever, but boy, I sure can say that it has helped so much. My energy level has also improved greatly. I even managed a good amount of house-cleaning this past weekend! Amazing!

Oh my goodness, these perimenopause symptoms get weirder as time progress. I also have the occasional tingling/buzzing/zaps in my left foot, but did not attribute it to hormones. Why does it affect our left foot? I saw a doctor several years ago about this sensation in my foot and he said it was related to phlebitis (sp.) so later I had a sonogram to rule out blood clots. Everything was alright, but I was still experiencing that tingling in my left foot (occasionally it's in both feet). I did notice that by taking calcium and especially magnesium it seems to help eliminate this peri symptom.
I sure would like to know why so many of us mainly experience this "buzzing" is our left foot.

I have been 'buzzing' and tremoring inside for 7 yrs. now. I am currently almost 52 and still have regular cycles.Like some of the other posts ,I have tried to explain this to my Dr. He is clueless. It started in one spot in the area of my uterus. It felt like I had a vibrating cell phone inside of me. It progressed to any and all areas of my body. It can be in my abdomen, my hands, feet,or chest. I try to ignore it at this point.I call it 'awakening the beast within'and then get on with my life.It is a relief to know I'm not alone

Hi--I'm brand new to this board but am so glad I stumbled across this tonight. I've just completed a series of medical tests (Brain MRI, EMG of arms and legs, doppler ultrasound of legs, bloodwork, echocardiogram) all with normal results...and all because I have the same symptoms you all describe. It started about 8 months ago at night with tingling in my feet (like they had fallen asleep) and now comes on in waves that travel up my body. It wakes me up and is very scary since it also sometimes feels like there is pressure in my chest. It does not happen every night, but seems to happen more frequently as time goes on. I am just glad to know I'm not alone...my doctor never mentioned that it could be part of hormonal changes due to peri menopause. Any advice on remedies is welcome!

Hello and welcome! I, too, have had numerous tests! How old are you and are you having any other symptoms? From research I've done, I believe the "buzzing" is from a lack of estrogen. Do you have any muscle twitches? It is very annoying and very scary!

Whether you have had your b12 levels tested or notThe docs think a level of 300 is ok even..but its not!!!.I would bet if you started taking b12 and a b complex..Any form of hormones depletes our bodies of b vitamins!! This in turn will cause our nerves to go haywire and cause you feel to feel the internal buzzing..Why do you think we all fee lit??
I have had burning in my upper extremeiesfor the last year and then about 6 months later it started in my feet..5 doctors countless dollars later..NOBODY could tell me what was wrong!!I found some info on the b vitamins and they help your nerves!! I am not healed but feel ALOT better than i had been.I had a hysterectomy sept of 03..This all started march of 04..I am just getting my feet to feeling better so i can walk without pain again..No thanks to any of those doctors!!!!
I found my info on the internet!!
I am taking the b12 and the b complex because they work better together!!
You can buy these at your drug store..If you have had these as i call the zingers..for a real long time..it may take a bit to get them to stop ..but i bet you if you take 200 mcg's of b12 and 1 bcomplex 100 mcg's a day{dont take more than 100mcg's of the complex}..it wont be too long before you get at least "some " relief!!
These are all classic symptoms of b12 deficiency~
My energy has gone through the roof since starting
these vitamins as well!!!
The month of december my feet hurt so bad from nerve pain zingers burning pain..that i was sitting
all day long doing nothing because it hurt to walk!!!
I started taking these vitamins and it was like a miracle was performed on me!!!
I still take prescription meds for my neck and shoulders..but i am patient and have faith in time it will work on the rest of me!!....
I did alot of homework online and found this info myself
I hope you girls do the same!!!
I know what its like to go to the doc and get the stare
and the shrug and feel helpless!!
Take care let me know if you need any info..I would love to pass it along and help someone else the way i have been helped!!
I am not a sales person..You can read up under my user name and read of all the trouble i have had in this last year and know i am telling the truth!
Be back later to check in!

Hi NancyNJ,
Welcome to the board! As recommended by WhataMess re taking B12 and Complex B vitamins, I also recommend taking magnesium - 500mg/day, 500mg/bedtime. I went to various drs. 35 times in a 5-month period and none of them prescribed any remedies to help me feel better. However, I am thankful that nothing serious was going on with me. I found out from the power-surge board where I first learned other women were having the tingling and burning feet/arms and those horrible internal shakes. I hated those internal jitters! I never read about it in any books either. Paxil CR has helped me manage the situation but I was told that it wouldn't get rid of the peri symptoms but after a month being on it and I took almost everything recommended in the "Before the Change" book, my hormones finally found its way back home and settled down. I have been fine since but am still taking all the vits.

HeeHee, ain't it the truth!! :D
Between the buzzing, blondeness, and forgetfulness I keep thinking I'm becoming the 'poster child' for blonde jokes. (OK maybe my boobs should be bigger LOL).
It's funny, everyone seemed to report that the buzzing seemed more common in the left extremities, and it started that way with me, but the last few weeks I have it mainly in my right foot. It's not painful, and pretty slight so that I don't notice it unless I'm off my feet/resting, but it's weird!
I'm wondering if I should take add'l BVitamins since my multi vitamin contains 300% 0f the RDA for vit B1, B2, B6,, and B12 ?? Is this enough or should I add more to my daily supplements?

Hi Everyone!
I too buzz like crazy and it seems to be only on the left side. I feel like my body is split in half the right side fine and left side buzzing. It started about 2 years ago in left foot which is mostly the problem. I have it in th eleft calf and also in the left elbow up to the side of the neck and head. Especially when I wake up in the morning I feel like my head is shaking away and of course you cannot see it .I just feel it. It is like trembling ,buzzing electrical current running thru,no pain just horrid sensations. I too have been tested all looks well. No Doctor seems to know what this is. If someone who has had any luck with anything could resppond I would so appreciate it. I am 53 and have not had a period since 1999. How weird is all this?? Thanks for listening.. Ellice

Hi to all my fellow "buzzers", I thought I had gone past that symptom. I had my last period in Jan.2006 and the buzzing stopped a few months before that and was replaced by horrible hotflashes. Well today the buzzing is back. Not as strong as before but my entire body feels like a mild electric current is flowing thru it. I am also very crampy and feel totally exhausted. My body wakes me up at least 5 times a night about 15 to 20 seconds before the hotflash starts and then it takes me awhile to go back to sleep. It seems as if my body is saying " Wake up and experience this hot flash !"Oh well, Nothing is forever. Hopefully my periods stay away and this is a Quick Phase in the life of my menopause.

This buzzing, electric current sensation has been a BIG symptom for me from the very beginning. I have been gettiing it two years now and my doc didn't have a clue and sent me for MRI to rule out MS etc. All came back normal. The buzzing is all over my body sometimes and goes to different parts of the body - like a kind of vibration - like when you are sitting on a stationary bus with the engine running - juddering. some nights lyin in bed it is so strong - going up and down my spine, in my legs and arms and in the pelvic area. Sometimes just a mild flutter, other times a real vibration. I also get these internal tremors and a sense of intense jitteriness.
this should be more documented in peri menopausal literature. All we ever read about is hot flashes etc but never this! and yest so many women get it!
I even get vibrating vision when looking at patterns etc - a bit like heat haze.

Hi Linda,
Ditto, ditto, ditto! Everything you are feeling with the "buzzing and electric currents" are exactly what I am dealing with! It is misery! I so much want my periods to end for good, so I can get to the "other side!" I just want to feel good, and I rarely do...
I hope you will feel better today and have a good Saturday!

[B]I am so glad that I am not alone . but do feel bad that we all have to be buzzing and vibrating like this. I just cannot believe that you have described to the T just what my symptons are. I feel so sorry for you as well because I know just how uncomfortable they are. I just do not understand what is going on in the body that makes these symptons of vibration and buzzing, I wish there was something we could do or vitamins to take that would make it go away. I have tried to track the symptons along with what I eat what exercise I do the level of stress I am experiencing and yada yada yada and there is NO Pattern!!! I am in menopause no periods for 6 years now so when does this end have had the symptons for over 2 years....
Any information and help gladly accepted. Take Care Ellice

I did a very random google search for a buzzing feeling I started getting in my left foot just last night and came upon this thread. It is very hard to describe, but a buzzing electrical stimulation is the best way. As stated this just started last night and has continued without stop and have no other buzzing besides my left foot. I am a little bit different then most on this thread because I am a 30 year old Male. In a way I'm glad I am not the only one, but I would love to know what is causing it and how I can stop this.

I haven't had a period for over 3yrs so am post meno now, but I have been getting this horrible buzzing feeling too.
All weekend I've had the buzzing on and off in my left hand, my left foot and the back of my leg into my left buttock
As I already have very bad anxiety and panic disorder this feeling just sent me into a real tizz and I had to go and lie down for a couple of hours.
It's a bit like pins and needles but not as intense and there is no numbness, just this horrible buzzing feeling.
After reading the posts on here I suddenly remembered that I had something similar but just on my left thigh a year or so ago, but as it was just in one place and it went after a few days I never got it checked out.
I have to say I do worry it could be something like a stroke or MS and I am scared to go to the doctor about it.

I also haven't had a period in 3 years and I started buzzing about a month ago in my right chest. I have allergies and bronchitis and I thought that maybe that was the cause. However, I have been to the Dr. several times and my lungs are clear.
I have looked up this symptom on several boards and couldn't find out what was going on.
I am having a lot of hot flashes return and have lost weight so maybe the hormones are going crazy again.

Sarah....
I hadnt seen this thread before.....I have answered similar threads....Mine is in my head....at first it felt like a vice grip or an old fashioned bathing cap and it moved---it was in different places on my head....also within my head it felt like an electric current which is exactly how i described it to the numerous doctors i saw...it no longer moves like an electric current...
it is now the buzzing that you mention--still in my head...mostly on both sides--sometimes it is sore to the touch and i have to rub it...other times it isnt sore at all...mostly it is at night that i have the buzzing--i cannot get comfortable laying on my head.....i have had all the tests a year ago as my brother passed away from a brain tumor...all tests negative...all heart tests negative .It still frightens me even though this has been going on since 9/2005 and i have finally given in to taking something to help me sleep at night since i couldnt get a full nights sleep because i felt wide awake in addtion to the above symptoms....
i have to mention that getting the 7 or so hours of sleep every night has helped tremendously
thanks for the posting on this topic!

I too have experienced with what you are referring to.
I have experienced jerking and the tingling in my feet, really scarey at times.
Thanks for sharing this, I've been having so many symptoms, related to the menopause.
Hopefully with support here, we can all move forward.

I am continually amazed by these message boards. I just found them yesterday, and have found people with all of my symptoms. My buzzing is in my right foot and started 2 or 3 years ago. I have tried to explain it to my husband but I don't think he understands. It feels like I have my foot sitting on something that is vibrating, such as a motor, etc. Almost like if you slowly said the word buzzzzzing...that is what it feels like. It was actually a little worse when it started. It happens most days, but I have really learned just to ignore it. I have never mentioned it to a doctor because I have learned that when you mention odd symptoms like this, they actually look at you like you are crazy. I have just assumed that since it hasn't progressed to anything worse in 2 -3 years, it is a very self-limiting thing. If it were something degenerative such as MS, etc., it would continue to worsen. I am so thrilled to find out that I am not alone in this. My only real concern is that this is going to progress into restless legs syndrome. I don't need anything else keeping me up at night. As an aside, I do notice that if I do a lot of bending or stretching of my legs, it temporarily becomes a little more active.

It's not just me then?
Wow, I am so glad I read this thread. I have been having strange sensations in my right foot, mostly at night, for several months now. Some nights I get dreadfully uncomfortable with it and end up having to go to bed as lying flat seems to ease it. I have never been able to properly describe how it feels to anyone, but yeah, it buzzes. It also kinda feels like it is burning, and if I am wearing footwear, it feels like it is swollen, but it's not.
I complained to my Chiropractor about it, and he confirmed that it is to do with the menopause. He has told me to drink lots of water (I hate water), and I have been forcing myself to drink 600ml to a litre a day, and I have found that it really hasn't been as bad. Mind you, other meno symptoms are getting worse now. If it's not one thing it's another.
Lovely time of life this, can't wait to finish with this awful meno stuff.

I don't know if what you're describing is what I have but with me it's restless leg syndrome. Drives me nuts if I don't get up and take an aspirin. That helps a lot. I sure don't want to take any prescription drugs for it since I am on enough with migraines.

Thank god I am not alone. I have been scared witless imagining I have all sorts of diseases. But reading your messages has made me feel a lot better. I too have been having these buzzing sensations, in my legs, feet, stomach area almost anywhere and at any time, I have also been having loads of muscle twitches and spasms. So is this a symptom associated to peri-menopause and am I actually sane. My dr has prescribed me some anti-depressants and says it is all due to anxiety. But reading your messages has indeed made me feel like I am not alone. Thank you very much.

Sometimes I think the doctors don't know what to do with us so they say. Here.. take this anti-depressant. I have migraines and my doctor said, you are depressed, that's why you get migraines. I replied. Listen, I am depressed only when I have migraines. Give me a pain free day and I am the happiest person you'll ever meet. :-) Same with the restless leg stuff. He said I was just depressed. HELLO.. I just told him he was the one that was nuts and I got a new doctor. Lordie.

What is it about the left foot (ok sometimes the right also) ?? I've started getting left foot buzzing - it just happened a couple of minutes ago, so I remebered this thread and here I am. Also, the other day, I had the buzzing happen only while I was walking - whenever the left foot touched the ground - BUZZ -that was strange.
I recently stopped taking my magnisium, calcium and folic acid, while I was on an antibiotic that had warnings about thaking these supplements within so many hours of the meds. I just stopped taking them, instead of trying to figure out the timing. I didn't have buzzing before this, so I wonder if the supplements where keeping the buzzing away.
I'm starting the vitamins again today, so hopefully it will help.

Hello Everyone,
I did a search on ****** for "buzzing sensations in the body" and as a result found this page. I had experienced the "buzz" for the first time about 1 and a half years ago and assumed it was a neurological disorder, especially since I have a cousin with MS. An MRI ordered by my doctor ruled this out. The buzz never came back until just last night as I was getting ready for bed.
Once again, I felt like electrical currents were running along both sides of my body at full force. I am 44 years old, and never thought it could be symptoms of menopause. Now as I read all these quotes I'm beginning to wonder. Has anyone here ever had menopausal symptoms that early? Excuse my ignorance, but I always assumed menopause didn't start until age 50 or so. I've never had any children, could it be my feminine systemg is shutting down early due to
lack of use?(joking). Seriously tho, I would appreciate any insight. Thanks for listening everyone, good health to all!
