I was wondering if anyone has ever taken Depakote? I am soo scared after they gave my Zyprexa and the doc. told me I would feel like a rock and eat and sleep all the time. Well the exact opposite happened, I felt like I was on Speed. I could't eat. Couldn't sleep. So I called the nurse for a tranquilizer during the evening and she said "NO, You ARE on a powerful Tranquilizer. You should be knocked out"
Well to put it simply I was suicidal and thought I was going insane. I never want to feel like that again. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I just don't want anything to happen again, but I suffer from 'Bipolar' (Manic/Deppressive). Anyone feel the same on Zyprexa or Depakote. I just want someone who had success with this to come foward. I am actually scared of these medicines.

Well, first off...what do you take the meds for? I take depokote for migraines. I don't feel wierd, I just feel perfectly normal. I don't know what to tell you except to have the doctor change the meds.

Hi, My Mom's been on depacote for around 4 years now...She is taking it to control her seizures. The only thing that we both notice is that she gets a bit drowsy....She takes 250mg., 3 times a day.

Have been on Depakote for approximately 1 1/2 years for Bipolar disorder (currently at 1250 mg / night). Overall drug has been reasonably effective in moderating the emotional balance. Negative effects I attribute to the Depakote is some impairment in short term memory and (maybe) slight slurring of speech.
Note that a potential serious side effect is liver damage - your liver enzymes must be periodically monitored while taking Depakote. Hope this info is helpful - Mr. Fish

Hello I was on depakote almost a little over a year I was on it to control my seizures from brain surgery. The only thing it did to me is weight gain and made me tremble. On depakote you need to have your level check every so often because you dont want to be on to much or to little and the blood test also help check for liver damage . Make sure you are on the right level andif your doctor does not check level insist on getting it done. You might want to go to a medical site on the web and check out the differnt symptoms of the med. I was on dilantin that did not make me feel anything felt like myself but got allergic to it than the depakote problems now I am on lamictal. take care hugs pattea

In reference to zyprexa...I was on it for three days when I realizized my body swelled esp. my ankles and also I too could not sleep! I thought This would come in handy for work! But the side effects were not good. My doctor told me to continue taking it, that the swelling could just be the heat but no way. For two weeks I was wired at night and at work. I wasn't getting any sleep at all. It's been two weeks since I stopped the Zyprexa and my body swelling is still pretty bad and it has also made my carpal tunnel worse, due to the inflammation in my body and joints. I can't wait til it's all out of my system. By the way it was given to me with Effexor for my depression, panick attacks and anxiety.

I was on depakote as an additional medication to curb my seizure disorder. As with the other person, all it did was cause me to be dizzy and gain weight. A new neurologist took me off this and put me on neurotin. What a life safer. This is the most wonderful medication I have been on since my head injury in 1986. It helped with my seizures. It has been the only thing that has done anything for my emotional unstability. And I can eat and perform almost like I had no injury at all. Though I still do not have the cognitive ability to work full-time, I can work part-time on neurotin. What a wonderful medeication!

i've been on both depakote and zyprexa as an attempt at preventing migraines... both just made me feel crappier...

depakote made me sick and nauseous, i couldn't keep food down. zyprexa made me fuzzy-headed and hungry, i gained weight while on the medication.

I was on Depakote about 3 years for leveling out my extreme sensitivity to external noise and visual stimulation. It worked great except for the weight gain and I exceeded the theraputic level and didn't want to up the dosage for fear of more weight gain. I went to a medicine that I was told was relatively new called Lamictal. That's also an "anti-convulsant" but doesn't have the associated weight gain. However, there are some associated risks that you will definitely want to familarize yourself with concerning Lamictal but when diagnosed by someone that knows what they are doing are not a factor. You have to be started slow on Lamictal. Good Luck.

I was on depakote for about 6 months, coming off of Topomax. I took 500mgs of depakote and noticed weight gain, trembling, and towards then end dizzyness, drop in blood pressure, and I was constantly starving. I was taking this for daily headaches/constant migraines. I am back on Topamax.....still can't find the right combo-
