View Full Version : Pregnancy and High Cholesterol

I am trying to decide if it is better to have babies sooner or later. I am 23 with high cholesterol and it does not seem to be going down. I take welchol and zetia but am not sure if I could take either or both of these drugs while I am pregnant. What I do know is that I cannot take a statin drug until after I am done having children. I just know that if I start having kids now then I will be able to lower my cholesterol faster but if I wait then I won't. I don't want to cause any problems to my heart because of not being on a statin drug.

Any advice?

Do you know what your numbers are? You can't just go by a total cholesterol number. What is your TC, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides? You are still pretty young to begin a life-long regimen of cholesterol lowering drugs. Do you have a strong history of heart disease in your family?

I would would also give yourself at least a couple months without the drugs before attempting pregnancy to get them out of your system . Go to rxlist.com and look up your drugs to see if their are warnings for pregnancy , it will tell you in there. Makes you wonder if they can screw up a small child what are they actually doing to us in the long run .
