I have a friend who very recently was diagnosed with cancer and it has spread all over. He is in so much pain that he was put on a morphine IV today. Is this an indication that he is near the end or is there hope of him having more good days left?

I can only tell you about my experience with the morphine situation. My mom recieved morphine and passed away 3 weeks later. In MY OPINION, I think morphine is given when death is near. Best of luck

You did not mention what type of cancer your friend has. It is also my experience (through my mom) that morphine is usually the last resort in the treatment of cancer. My mom had pancreatic cancer and lived 3 months after her diagnosis. I wish you the best - your support to your friend is probably the best medicine at this time.

Through my experiences also, with my father, he was given morphine a few weeks before he passed away. So i assume its just given to the patient to relax them and relieve them from pain in their final days but things may take a turn for the better and hopefully for you and your friend they do. Godbless-

I've also had the same experience with my father. He recieved morphine treatments a few weeks before he passed away. Godbless & my prayers are with you-
