ok, this is kind of a long story. anyway...

i got a blood test for all STDs about 4 months ago, and herpes type 1 and 2 showed up in my blood. i've never had any kind of outbreak on my mouth or genitals, ever, prior to that and even to this day. the doctor then took a culture from my vagina and said it came up positive for herpes....how could this be, because i have read on these boards that a culture cannot show up positive unless you are having an outbreak, and i was not having an outbreak. i have this hope that perhaps i have both types on my mouth and i've just never had an outbreak up there. what does everyone think? or do you think i was having an internal outbreak and that's what caused the culture results? if i did have sores when the doctor took the culture, wouldn't she have noticed it? i am SO confused. i

It does sound weird, but with both tests positive, it's likely you have it. You could repeat the blood test to make sure, and make sure you get the results and examine them yourself. Still, you could go your whole life without an ob.

You could have been having an internal outbreak.

Having both HSV1 and HSV2 on your mouth, though possible, would be VERY unlikely. It's far more likely you have HSV1 orally and HSV2 genitally.

I have read of cases where a female has only had and internal herpes ob. The location of ob's will vary from person to person. Like backpacker said, get retested if you doubt the results.

I have no sores out side at all extream itching outside but have sores on the inside. I have had constant outbreaks for 6 months inside but only found out through a blood test that I had this this 4 months ago. I have almost constant itching, back pain leg pain and the damn tingles which drive me nuts I took valtrex for 2 weeks and that seemed by the end of two weeks to at least calm down the itching but my right side started hurting bad so I stoped. I have snice in the last three day started valtrex again because I cant stand this stupid virus and is driving me over the edge. I am reminded that I have this everyday. The stupid thing is I STILL have no idea how I got this amost everyone I have been with in the last 12 years has been tested and has been negitive so who knows how I got this and I think that drives me more nuts than anything.I'm still wondering if the higher the number the more outbreaks you have? Thanks for listening

Moondancer, it might be one of these people you have been with who haven't been tested, or one of those people who has been tested might have got a false negative. A minority of people consistently test negative for herpes, despite there being indications that they are positive e.g. having symptoms of the virus which respond to Valtrex therapy etc. False negatives are apparently more common than false positives.

The tingling and leg pain may well be herpes symptoms (I had these in the beginning), but also could be from stress if you are worrying about the virus and its effects so it's a good idea to find something which relaxes you.

Good luck!
