I've been on the pill since I was 16....all kinds of them Orto Tri, Loestrin, Yasmin. The only probs I ever had was breakthru bleeding.

March '03 I had a baby, and breastfed him for a year while I took the minipill. Since switching back to a "normal" pill I have had terrible acne. I've switched 3 times trying to find the right one for me: tried Ortho Tri(stopped because of terrible mood swings and acne), Ortho Tri-Lo(moods better but acne still very persistant), then Estrostep. No luck.

Last week I gave up on it. Since then my face has been clearing. Problem is, I don't want another baby quite yet...but obviously I can't handle these hormones.

What to do?

Jenn

You could try switching back to the mini pill but with that it is hard because you always have to remember and can't miss but if you can do that then that may be the best option for you. You could talk to your doctor about this problem and see if they have any more suggestions for you, other options could be the ring, the shot, and the patch. Hope you find something that helps, take care!

Mirena IUD is another good option. It's good for 5 years, you don't have to think about it, and if you're ready to have another baby before the 5 years are up you can just have it removed and be ready to conceive just as if you never used anything at all. I got Mirena a little over a motnh ago after being on the pill for 14 years. My skin is clearing up beautifully since stopping Levora. Good Luck! :)

Thanks for your replies.

With the minipil...is it okay to not be getting any estrogen?

I thought about an IUD, but i'm not so sure I want something so "permanent".

I think an IUD might be your best bet. It's not that permanent, you can have it removed at any time, and you never have to think about. Mirena has hormones that stay in your uterus (so you won't have side effects) and Paraguard is hormone free (plastic wrapped in copper). You could stay on the minipill if you liked it, but IUDs are just so easy. Similiarly I know a lot of people here LOVE nuva ring (insert for three weeks, then take out), and say it has very little side effects, you could think about that one. Good luck!
