 Hi everyone! I am new here. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long its takes Mobic to start working, or if it even helps with arthritis pain very much? My doctor started me on it today, 7.5 twice daily .
I really am in some pain right now, seems like every joint, plus the soles of my feet. The Dr. said something about taking if all the time from now on,
but in the past I have had problems with stomach bleeding and I have wpw
which effects my heart rate(speeds it up) so I have to be careful what I take, could this be a problem with the mobic?
I f anyone has any experioence with this drug I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks :bouncing:
I just wanted to add , that I have just taken my second Mobic a little while ago, and started having really bad pain in my ankle, when I checked it , it was really swelled up. I have never had the swelling in my ankles before.

Hi there,
I took it for about a year and found that it did help me----but unfortunately I developed stomach trouble and had to quit...Remember to take it with a good amount of food and don't use alcohol...Good Luck! Val :)

I've taken it on and off for about a year also, it does help some and it is the only one I've been able to take that didn't upset my stomach. I'm sure they will find a reason to take it off the market as well, seems like everything nowadays has unexpected adverse reactions. I only take during my flares, I have nerve damage to my hands with arthritis, I notice it helps my hands but does nothing for the arthritis in my neck and spine.

Thanks to Val & Nancy both. Its been two days and my stomach feels like it is on fire.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will go away. So far my ankles are about the same, the all over pain is also about the same, I called the pharmacy today and asked how long it will take to start seeing some results and was told that iif I had not noticed any by now that I probably would not be helped by Mobic. But it seeems to me that was a very short amount of time for it to start working. I also am worried about the stomach bleeding because I have a huge fibroid tumor and have to a
hysterectomy. I wonder if it possibly has any bleeding effects in other ways?
Thanks again so much! Take care , Missy

I forgot to mention that mobic can cause swelling, do you have high blood pressure? I would make sure you are checked periodically because of the swelling and you said a fibroid tumor. Sounds like you have a few reasons NOT to take mobic, so check with the Dr. If your stomach is like on fire, stop the mobic, that is what happened to me when I took vioxx, it could be burning ahole in your tummy even after a very short time of taking it. So what is WPW anyway? I have MVP (mitral valve prolapse)but I don't think I ever saw those letters before, what does it stand for, just being nosy and besides it's something else to learn.

:) Nancy, thanks again for your help. I haven't taken any Mobic yet today.
I was trying to let my stomach settle down the fire is still there. As far as I know my blood pressure is okay.
Is mobic used for all arthritis or just certain kinds? I have no idea what
type I have . It was found in a blood test at age 3. I don,t have any medical ins. so my Dr. is trying to put all the tests on hold as long as I wait.
I do know that I have 7 spurs on my spine as of last year .My neck hasn't been ex-rayed yet. It also effects hips, shoulders, wrists, fingers etc.,
as for the WPW it stands for (Wolfe-Parkinson -White Syndrome).
People with this have an extra electrical pathway between the upper and lower chambers of their heart, at times when the electrical system takes this wrong pathway it can cause the onset of extremely high pulse rate.
Causing dizziness, fainting and in rare cases death due to ventricular fibrillation. There is a procedure that can be done called an EP study, where they try to find the extra pathway and burn it out, but as for me I am a chicken. The good Lord above has been with me that's for sure.
My thing is that my rate is never normal even after resting for hours I am still about 120 beats a min. all the time. I have made 10 yrs. like this so far.
But another bad thing is I can't take cold medicines or any med. that causes the heart to speed up, no caffiene, chocolate or things like that.
Thank you again for your help, I'll check with my Dr. about the Mobic.

If you are experiencing stomache burning from Mobic then you need to call the doctor immediately and report it, It could be causing some gastric issues.
Something as simple as an Acid Reflux medication may be able to resolve the burning problem and you can continue on Mobic monitored. You must get your blood levels checked every 6 months if your doctor has not already advised you to to check your kidney function.
Generally Mobic starts working fairly quickly. It is intended for any type of arthritis that causes undue imflamation.

:p Thanks Kissa, I had no idea that blood levels needed to be checked. I
am new to all of this. I have watched my mother suffer for years, severe pain, swelling, redness not be able to open her hands etc.,I was wondering is arthritis inherited? Several times over the years she has been told she had rheumatoid but then about a year ago she was told it was osteo.,
so I not sure which type she has, my dad has osteo of the spine, and has had two surgeries. My last attack was by far the worse for me yet, I couldn't even walk on the soles of my feet, every joint hurt. The Dr. said he was concerned that it hit everything at once I have no clue what that meant,he didn't explain. Sorry about all the questions to everyone. I am trying to figure out whats going on. Thanks a bunch,Missy :bouncing:

It's likely it is both. If her hands are affected I've often times seen that folks with Rhuematoid get that more often or it is more common I should say. Did mom have a job or do something in the past that caused repetative strain to the hands at all? That would be how she'd end up with osteo there, or a former injury. But I suspect Rhuematoid, and if her bloodwork has confirmed it years ago then that's the answer. It doesn't change from one type to the next.
Rheumatoid is genetic so if she has it then yes chances are that's how you ended up with it. Osteo is not genetic and is caused by trauma to the joint.
I feel for your father, I have it of the spine as well and it's horrible to deal with.
And the blood tests, yes they are very important. The next time you see the doctor please mention getting your liver tested. every 3 months is optimal but you can go for 6. Liver failure is a huge concern with this medication, though rare, it's important to be checked.
And please, feel free to ask all the questions you need, we are all here to help you out.

Dear Kissa, First of all thanks again. As far as my mom goes she has never had a job outside of the home. And as for myself I have never been told what kind of arthritis mine is. Which since I have gotten older I haven't had any kind of tests to tell, just ex-rays of the spine which showed spurs. Now at 38 its really starting to take a hold of me. I think the pain in my spine is the worse it goes all down my arms and out my legs. I have found sitting almost impossible anymore. I skipped the mobic today, couldn't handle the stomach stuff. How long does it take mobic to get in your system and produce results? Soon I Hope!

I am very sorry to hear you are having it so rough right now. I will keep you in my prayers.
Mobic usually takes 2 - 3 weeks to be effective.
You should call the doctor Monday if your stomache is that bad hun. In the meantime if you don't take acid reflux meds I'd suggest you go get some Tums or something to help in the meantime.
You have not had bloodwork done to determine if you have RA or your RA factor tests?
That's no right, no doctor should put you on anti-imflamatories if he's been treating you for the problem previously such as a general doctor. Do ask that you get bloodwork done for your own peace of mind. You do need to know whats going on.
If you have had tests make sure to ask next time you see the doctor what your type is, treatment is essential to knowing!
You don't have to ever have worked outside the home for Osteo of the spine, could be a result of imbalanced hips, childbearing and weilding around children every day.
I have arthritis in both my shoulders from carrying around and breastfeeding two children. Shoulders couldn't take it.
Try getting some rest if you can, lay either flat on your back with your knees bent up or on your side with a semi-flat pillow between the knees.
I am going through the same thing so you aren't alone. I had to buy a walker last week it is so bad. I have an MRI on monday and a surgical consult on the 17th
Please keep me abreast of what's going on
Hugs

Hello Kissa, I have been using rolaids to help with the burning. I guess I should explain about my Dr., he was my Doc about ten yrs. ago, I didn't have these arthritis problems at that time. He treated me for various things, heart problems, asthma etc.,
then he re-located. During that time I lost my insurance, and had not seen a Dr. (except emergency phys.) until lately. I am still without insurance. My Dr. moved back about a year ago, so I started seeing him again. He thought it would be a help to me by not ordering tests for as long as we could hold off, because of the expense to me.
I didn't know that anti-inflam. med.'s , may not be the right way to go. If osteo. of the spine can be caused by hips being off, that makes me curious. When I was a child
I had a lot of problems with my hips, my parents were told that they were turned so many degrees in the wrong direction. I was made to wear prescription shoes & sit cross-legged.The specialist said this would help turn them back (must have not worked) because my left hip still pops in and out really bad. My mom was given phalidamide while carrying me ( don't know if you have ever heard of it) and was always told that this was probably what happened to me. I wonder if the hip problem may have hurt my spine. Hope you feel better, Missy

I tried mobic twice, once for 3 weeks and once for only a week. The first time, there was no change in my symptoms and the second, my ankles also swelled up after about 3 days of it - so i stopped - no use taking a potentially dangerous drug that doesn't even help, dont know if the ankle swelling was from the mobic b/c i also have a UTI but... you never know, and the next day I peed all day long!!!!!!! Good luck- nothing much is helping my pain - a 6 day predisone pack helped a small bit - calcium supplements helped the most with the bone pain but now i have kidney stones!!!!!
