Hi Everyone...
I am 43 years and have GERD...I currently take a Prilosec and Ranitidine once a day, these pills usually control the Gerd, but every so often 2 weeks before my cycle, especially when I am ovulating I get the worse heartburn and even the pills don't help. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this? And what they do to help it. Is this common for perimenopause?
Thank you
and Hope everyone has a Safe, Happy, Prosperous New Year

I take Nexium occasionally for GERD and I've had great success. Yes, I've had an extreme case of reflux since going through perimenopause...it was really bad the earlier part of last year. This might sound weird, but I've noticed that carbohydrates cause mine to be worst so I've limited the amount and type that I eat.

Yes, I have this at different times. I take Nexium and have for about three years every day. At times, I can not control the acid reflux. I have tried readjusting my diet during those times and nothing works. However, when the indigestion clears, I can eat anything as long as I take the Nexium.
When this started, I thought that I was going to have to up the dosage of Nexium. I did and became nauseated. I don't know why it starts or why it ends. I do know that when it starts, it lasts about 2-3 weeks.
I have not had a period for 2 years and this symptom started in peri and seems to be resolving a little bit now.

Thank you for responding Twanger...
I am sorry that you are having the same discomfort, but it is comforting knowing that I am not alone.
I have tried taking the Nexium, but that does not work as well for me as the Prilosec

In September, I had a bout that lasted 2-1/2 weeks and it freaked me out...but as suddenly as it started, it stopped.
I too had GERD when I ovulated when I turned 40ish...I think I am ovulating less and less because except for that September event, I haven't had anything....and I'm still getting my period. I thought I would miss December, but it turns out it was only 2 weeks late :) (I'm 47-1/2 )

 Hello Ladies!
Count me in on the heartburn! I have NEVER had this problem in my life. I have sufferd through a number of other stomach issues during peri menopause and to add insult to injury, had my gall bladder removed about 5 years ago at the beginning of this little hormonal roller coaster ride (but that's a whole other topic!). I have been feeling pretty chipper. Hot flashes and night sweats down to the "rare occassion" and I was hopeful that I was at the tail end of the drama but then... the misery of heartburn. It comes at different intervals and I am having difficulty figuring out what triggers it. I just took some vitamin supplements a few moments ago and now it feels as though someone set fire to my insides. Sigh, will this ever end? The best thing is being able to come on to to this Board and know that I am not alone.[/FONT] :)

I had this symptom so so bad along with IBS. OMG, i was at the gastro every week and then every 2 weeks, on aciphex for at least 3 months. Finally, it subsided. I still get it but it's controllable but have the aciphex in the cabinet just incase. I wouldn't wish any of this on my worse enemy
