 Hi, for about the past 10days ive had itching in the vaginal area, mostly on the outside. Anyways about a week ago I decided to use a mirror to see if anything was wrong down there. And I noticed it was red and alittle enflammed along the (lips i guess there called), also ive notcied extra discharge, so I told my mom and ive been using a yeast infection cream for the past 4 days(its a 7day cream), and I havent noticed anything getting much better. The itching mainly only is in the morning and alittle bit at night. Should I wait the cream out and see if the infection goes away???? Also I notcied that I have 2 small dark bluish veins on the inner walls of the lips,is that at all normal? mY mom said its probally because my skin is enflammed and thats making them do that, do you agree? I didnt think women had veins on their sexual organs like men do.One last thing, if I did go to the doctors later for this, do you think they'll do a pap? Some people I asked said they'll just do a vulvar checkup, and some say they'll do a full on pap ? Also I am a virgin, so I dont know what else it could be. Well if anyone can give me some advice,or maybe stories on how your infection was treated and went,Id feel at ease hearing others stories. maybe some home remadies that help it,that'd be great. If you have anything you think will help me please post here, and if you'd like to email me @ [ please carefully review the posting rules - no emails ],sometimes I dont get to this site for a couple of days, email is just a faster communication, in my mind at least, thanks for the help, JB

i had a yeast infection when i was like 13 and it sounds like what you are talking about. it was all red and itchy. i went to the doctor and they took a q tip and swabbed the area. (i dont exactly remember where it was a long time ago) and they gave me pills instead of cream. it was gone in like a week.

It's time to go see a gynecologist if the over the counter creams aren't working. They must not be strong enough for you. Also, a yeast infection isn't an STD... just wanted to let you know since you posted it on this board. Since you're a virgin I'd say it's safe to say that you don't have an STD.

Yes, the veins are normal. You probably just noticed them because you were looking closely. You have many veins down there.

They will probably do a pap just as a routine. Usually on the first visit they'll do a pap to make sure all is okay. They will then take a sample or swab from your vagina and observe it under a microscope to look for yeast. They should be able to tell you right then what is wrong.

Vaginal itching is not always caused by thrush -- what causes yeast infections. Other bacterias can cause itching too. There are antibiotics the doctor can give you to clear it up in a jiffy. Make an appointment and you'll likey feel better soon.
