hi all...

sorry if this is in the wrong section.. perhaps a mod can move it?

Anyway, i've just been told i've got to go for an ultrasound for a possible aortic aneurysm...reading about this on the net the symptoms kinda match mine.. and also the doctor said he could feel the pulse on the aorta... which is a giveaway apparently.

Anyway, i dont know much about it.. only what i've read on the net (which is pretty scary) ...

anyway.. has anyone been diagnosed with this? Is it a problem in everyday life? Did you have any operations to rectify?

I'm a 33 year old male by the way..

I know, if it was me, I wouldn't mess around with it. I know several people that have had it fixed and all came through it just fine and are back to normal. Blood pressure concerns would be something you should be aware of. A cardiologist will be able to answer your questions about daily activity if you have an aneurysm and your best course of treatment.

cheers for the reply.. its good to hear that the recovery rate is good for treatment as most of what i've read about the operations is pretty scary.

my brother was diagnosed with that about 12 to 15 years ago. Apparently it is small and they are watching it - At one time I knew the size but I don't remember. He has it tested every six months and it has not grown to a size where surgery is required .He is not supposed to do any heavy lifting. Good luck with yours. By the way my brother is 70 years old.

My father just had this happen. Yes, it blew, luckily in the back. It has not quite been 72 hours and we are still walking on eggshells. Anything you can tell us would be wonderful, we are all so worried.

What they do to treat it depends on the size of the aneurism. With a small swelling it's usually watchful monitoring. For larger aneurisms that are more apt to burst, surgical intervention is done with either stenting or grafting.
There is a gray area where some doctors will operate and some won't.
Make sure the echo technician gives you a good estimate of the diameter of the aneurism.

BP control becomes more important for those with an AAA.
