So I still have a lot of confusion about where I can go for counseling...I have seen people say that they got free counseling at certain mental health clinics. This just confuses me as the only sort I'm familiar with is where you go to your PCP and get a referral to a therapist that you have to pay insane amounts of money or your insurance covers some of it. Which I actually went through last summer, and couldn't stand it.

But now I have hardly any money, no health insurance, just in a very hard, low spot, and am looking for therapy anywhere I can go but I'm lost. Where, if anywhere, can I go for low-cost or even that free counseling? Even if it's one visit...I need to go somewhere for help! I did find a not-for-profit mental health agency that I am determined to call very very soon to ask if they have someone I can talk to and i'm sure maybe I'll figure things out but there but I guess I am looking for reassurance that there are other resources in case this one turns me away. I'm scared of having nowhere to turn until I have a full-time job, which seems to not be anytime soon.

Oh I am truly sorry you are going through a hard time. I get free access to psychiatrists, nurses, free zoloft, everything through my local Human Services Center. Here it is called West Central Human Service Center. If I were you I would make some calls and find out if there is one in your area. They are all over the place. Even if you call Social Services they could probably help you out finding out where you need to go.
Good luck, there is help out there, it is just a matter of finding it.

Thank you so much! I'm going to have to look up mine. I also just remembered earlier a # I had for a mental health agency near me and I gave them a call, and they have some programs to help get those suffering from illness to get back out in the world. I'm so surprised these resources are out there!
