i had the nucleoplasty where they shrink the disc and patch it. i don't think it worked. i read about idet and my doctor has mentioned it. has anyone had luck with this procedure. i have a contained herniated disk l4-l5 and there is a tear. i wonder if this might work for me or be an option. can anyone give me some advice. thanks, jason.

i searched the healthboards and results don't seem to be that good for IDET.

I have done a few searches and read a number of posts; the results that are in are not favorable. Most patients end up with further surgery. Personally, I wouldn't have it done as the odds are against you. It is your decision, of course and I wish you luck whatever you do.

Hi - I had IDET about 8 months ago with no positive results. However, in my case the surgeon wanted me to try all the conservative treatments prior to surgery, so I had to "check that box." I don't remember reading/hearing about anything that could go horribly wrong during IDET, so it's worth a shot if you have the insurance.
I should have my lumbar fusion in 2-3 weeks!
best of luck,
-Katie

I was actually referred for IDET, but the doc did facet injections instead. When I saw my neuro after my discogram, he offered me fusion or ADR. When I asked him "what about IDET"? He said that he can't find anyone who does it here anymore. He said that most patients did not have good results, so many odcs won't do it anymore.

I had an idet two months ago, 2 levels (L4 L5 S1). I now sleep thru the night and wake up PAIN FREE. I still take my celebrex (200mg) once a day. I doing alot of PT (I still have bad days, but not like before the idet) and hope that within the next 4 months to be 90% better. If you are interested in how my dr. did the proceedure (he does a disco right after the idet, using the same cath), I'll post more. I'll ck back on this thread for the next few weeks. So far the idet has turned out to be the "holy grail."
