My 4 year daughter has been shaking. The dr. called them tremors. On Thursday the daycare called concerned because she couldn't barely hold a pencil and they thought they saw involuntary twitches as well.

She has been under a dr.s care for 3 months being treating for a fight with asthma/pneumonia (2 cases this fall) and revurrent viral infections. She has been on many medicaations but the dr. does not think they are the cuulprit. She was on( on and off during the last month) albuteral, pulmicort, singular, biaxin, liquid steroids twice, biaxin for the past37 days.

She has not had anything since last weekend but the antibiotic and singular. I am so concerned we are missing somethingg. She was shaking all day Thursday and woke up today with it.

BtW she had bloodwork-- came back ok...we have diabetesin the family wanted to check blood sugar.

What about a ct scan or something to check her brain for abnormalities? If the doctor doesn't think it's caused by meds than what does he think it is caused by?

Well she did the quickie Neuro checks in her office and didn't see anything that raised a red flag. She honestly didn't know what is causing it. Everything I've been able to find on tremor(not much esp in children) is very passive, not to worry type thing.

Well Salbutamol would do it as would the oral steroid. The oral steroid would do it if she was not tapered off them. However if she has been off them for over a week, I would suspect the Singulair. My son (5) was on Singulair for a week, and he had fitful sleeps, nightmares, and tremors during the day. I took him off them, and within 2 days, he was fine. I would take her off all meds (check with doc). My son is on flovent 2 puffs a day, and salbutamol as needed and he does not have any reaction to any of them, unless he has to have the salbutamol more than twice a day, then he gets real hyper. Everyone reacts differently to meds. Take her back to the doc. This is not normal. Be persistant.

She has been on the singular daily since August. Do you think it could cause it after all this time?

Does she take albuterol through a nebulizer? How many times a day? Albuterol is known for causing shaking - for me, the shaking is unbearable. There is an alternative to albuterol called Xopenex. Xopenex is albuterol without the side effects. You should ask the doctor about switching to it.

She takes albuterol 2 x-4 x a day when she has pneumonia or a viral infection with the pulmicort added 1x day when needed. She hasn't had it since Saturday though. The tremors started on Thursday..still possible?

Albuterol caused shaking with me and my 18 month old.

Once I had a bad case of bronchitis and was on a steroid dosepack and woke up with horrible shakes every morning. I remember trying to eat peas, but I couldn't get them into my mouth with the spoon before I shook all the food off. It went away after I finished the steriods.

I would be inclined to think one of those meds could be the culprit.

That;s reassuring to know. I can handle the shaking...I just worry that they are issing something associated with all of her illnesses and this is just another symptom. A symptom of what, I don't know i don't think it is a symptom of mcuh..but I guess I am a worrywort. Thanks for letting me talk it out a little.

You are a normal Mom who is concerned about her child. Having recurrent Asthma/bronchitis/pnemonia should not be considered "normal". I am a n advocate in trying to find the "cause"..with no luck so far!! I had my son taken by ambulance to the Hospital 2 weeks ago because he had a fever of 105.4 and could not breath. We live over 30 min.away from the hospital and knew I could not treat him for his asthma while I was driving so I called the ambulance. They actually had the nerve to ask me " why did you call the ambulance"????? I was floored....and then waited to be seen for 2 hours!!!! His ox/sat was at 92....and they said "oh thats normal for a cold virus"....Uh...I dont think so!!!! For some reason the Med field is finding all these children with lung problems as "normal for our times"!!!!! Having a child who gets all these lung problems with a "cold" is not normal. And yes we should all be worried. You and only you are your childs advocate. It's tough...I worry all the time the minute my son sniffles or coughs...and dont think I have slept in 5 years. We just take one day at a time.
Good Luck

I'm sorry about your son. I know what you mean though. My husband almost died of asthma as a child and we actually had a girl die here recently from plain pneumonia...they jjust couldn't save her. I worry about her and call daycare alot and check on her and they are like "she;s fine, she hasn't coughed all day" and then I decide to try to back off, and they call about the tremors. UGH! She;s 4 and she has had pneumnia 4 times!
