Thanks to everyone who has been supportive about my problems convincing my family that I really do need fusion surgery. I am going to set up a support system of friends and then hope for the best. If I have a lot of post-op pain or even complications, I am just going to focus on the future (next summer, maybe?) when I will fell much better and stand much straighter. When my mom gets critical or judgmental, I'll just ask her to support my decision or keep her opinions to herself. If I get depressed, I'll call my therapist or friends. Now here's my new question: Since I've never participated in a chat room before, how do I contact you guys once my thread gets pushed to the bottom of the list? I know I'll be out of pocket for a couple of weeks, but i also know I'll be anxious to get back in touch once I'm home. surgery is scheduled for February 3 - still lots of time to work the anxiety level back up and down a few times, I guess!

Sorry Casey, the "s" in your name slipped out of alignment!

Robbie, you can always begin a new thread or look for recent posts of ours. I rarely go more than a day or two without checking the board. I honestly do not know if the board prohibits us from exchanging email addresses. I know what you mean about the rising and falling anxiety. I experienced it myself. I was quite scared the night before but I had nothing to worry about. It is nice to have someone that can relate.

I hope you include us in your support system. We will be here for you.

I'll be here, looking for your posts. Both pre-surgery and post-op.

Stay Strong!

(Poor Casey, even Casey's NAME is out of alignment HA)

oh, the board "strictly prohibits off board communication" Well, don't know if that is the EXACT statement, but close. So, no emails, phone numbers, or other sites where we can chat more. That is the only thing that sucks. I wish we had PM or something. In a way I understand, but it still sucks. (sorry mod, but it does! :) )
Very happy to help you out. It does make a difference to have a support group. If I didn't have the support of fam and friends, I'd be pretty darn depressed. Good luck!

To reconnect start a new thread, most people who have been following you progress and decision making will pick up on it and add there two bob worth. Congrats on your decision making and be strong

Good for you...I think you have made some good decisions. Stay strong and stay in touch. Just start a new thread anytime you want to make contact.

Hi,
My Surgery is the day before yours, mine is on February 2nd. Almost the same thing, I am having a Posterior Lumbar Fusion of S1 L5, also a TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion) one right after the other.
When I get home I will start a new post to let everyone know how it went, and I will be looking for yours as well.
Stardust
