My friend Mandie quit smoking a while ago and gained an unbelievable 35 lbs!

I have been diagnosed with cervical cancer to top that and i heard recently that smoking triples the cancer progression, applying especially to people in my age group...

but I'm terrified to gain weight again! It took me so long to get down to 104 (I'm 5'0", not anorexic, lol) and I really don't want to be big again.

I would try nicoteine (sp?) gum but I am pretty poor... and that stuff is like $50 a box...

can anyone help me?

Lynz, yes I won't lie to you, quitting smoking is hard and you MIGHT gain weight. Every bit of information about it says to cut your calories by 200 per day to avoid weight gain. THat was not enough for me. I gained 10 lbs about the 6th month I quit, even though I had started excersizing every day to burn off those extra 200 calories. You need to really watch those calories. I thought just excersizing would do it for me. It didn't. I had to start a diet plan in order to start losing. I realize now that this will have to be a way of life for me FOREVER. But hey, my lungs feel healthier, and I smoked for 25 years. Laura

Just remember...you are not gaining weight cause you quit smoking, but many x-smokers starts to replace the cigarette with food...If you can be strong and just eat the way you eat today, you will NOT gain weight...It's also important to eat often but little...I eat 2 slices of bread for breakfast, 2 for lunch, 1 a coupple of horus berfore dinner, and dinner. Combine this with working out 3 times(or more) at the gym or at home...

I usually take my exercise at home...started out with 400 sit ups, 100 thigh and backside exercises, 20 push ups...And some more...anyways, by just doing this in front of the TV after dinner, I have had remarkable results! My stomach is hard as steel, and I have dropped down one size :bouncing: Almost all of the fat is gone, and this in only a coupple of months! And the good thing about this "Diet"; you can eat snacks once or twice a week :D

I don't drink anything but water though...but that's just casue I don't like sodas and sweet drinks...But of course; It helps if sweet drinks is not a part of your daily diet....
