Hi yall ! ..Im new to this board and have a question for yall. My 4 yr old princess, ..errrr..daughter..heheh..has nose bleeds constantly. I took her to her pediatrician who checked her and said to use neosporin and saline and it should do the trick. That was 2 months ago. They slowed enough to notice , so I thought, COOL, its working. ..The bleeding starting picking up again and she started getting a little scabby under the side that WASNT bleeding...So 10 days ago I took her back in and saw her drs associate . We were in the room, and Creed was up on the examining table , laying on her stomach, swinging her legs, singing, while she was coloring. She didnt acknowledge the Dr when he came in and continued doing her thing while we talked. So I told him what was going on and he said " I bet I know whats going on already...Empitigo.."...I was floored and said " but she doesnt act like she feels bad AT ALL whatsoever....The only thing thats getting her is her bleeds and she coughs at nite. She only coughs when shes laying down so I figure she maybe has allergies and I wanted to talk to you about that....."....SO...He has her sit up and says yep empitigo...we'll do a swab on her to make sure and lets take a look in her throat"...He said her throat looked real bad too....he did the swabs and not only empitigo but STREP ....I felt like such a heel and the worst mother EVER. Not only was I appologizing to Creed PROFUSLY for not knowing, I was telling the doc ' believe me , Im NOT a bad mom...I would have had her in here had I known , but she doesnt act like she feels bad.."...so she got pink antibiotic for the strep and some cream for the empitigo...its all gone from her face ( and shes not coughing anymore) BUT she has a horendus rash on her left thigh and the small of her back. To me it kinda looks like poison ivy . She said it doesnt itch or hurt and it just appeared today. I saw in when she was getting in the shower. My rambling question is...does empitigo spread to other body parts ???....
Sorry it took so long to get to my question !!!...ANy input will be GREATLY appreciated !!

Generaly no, it's a skin infection, i know it can spread, but it would probably have spread to other places on her face before it spread to her back. Can you get her back in to the doctors to get it checked out? Have you tried putting anything on it...also, what does it look like? is it bumpy, does it look more like dry skin? My daughter got a really bad rash when she was about 3-4....she had a yeast infection (i had switched her to an adult soap, big mistake, lol), after i got that treated she woke up with a rash from her belly button down to her knees. I took her that day to a walk in clinic (it would have been too much of a wait at the er and her dr's office), she had fiths disease...a pretty mild case as she didn't have any of the aches and pains, just rash. It went away pretty quick by itself...but it looked horrible. I thought the yeast infection had spread...i thought i was a terrible mother for letting it get that bad...when really i didn't, i had been treating her infection for a few days and the doctor said it was pretty much gone.
I would take her in just to see what is going on.

Children can also get yeast infections from antibiotics. When my son was about 6 months, he was hospitalized for pneumonia. With all of the IV antibiotics he was getting, he developed a yeast infection on his face...he looked a little like Fred Flintstone for a while.

Don't know if the dose your daughter is getting could cause that, though. I would definitely ask Creed's doctor about it.

Hey ! Thanx for the replies !...I got her in today and well...doc said, after examining her, that she was an " enigma"...( thats probably not spelled right , but you get the picture)....diagnosis...it LOOKS like scabbies...whatever that is...and since it doesnt hurt or itch, it ACTS like the chicken pox like virus , but doesnt look like it. Dr said because Creed hadnt been clawing at it she was going to treat it as the chicken pox like virus. ( I cant remember what she called it)...So she gave her some cream called Elidel and we go back in 2 days for recheck. Doc also said if it were treated as scabbies and its not, it might make it worse.......YIPPEE !!!.....At least Creed has been a good sport . We'll see how she looks in the morning after the cream has had a chance to work. Keep your fingers crossed and again I thank yall for responding !

Hello! I myself get Impetigo. I have NO IDEA where I got it from; they say from other children, daycares, etc. It is an infection that will keep coming back. The only thing to do is NOT itch it. Otherwise it WILL spread. It started out looking like a coldsore, and I made the mistake of itching it slightly--and then it got WORSE! It got bigger, spread fast over the side of my mouth--all the way past the crease of my smile; near my dimple. Once it gets into it's full blown phase, it gets little blisters on it. It is the ITCHIEST thing I have ever known! I receive oral antibiotics, and some cream to put on it. You are supposed to keep it clean and dry. I always put Hydrogen Peroxide on it to clean it and blot it with some tissue or a cotton ball. Make sure to WASH YOUR HANDS EXTREMELY WELL after coming ANYWHERE NEAR IT!
From my understanding, it is HIGHLY contagious unless treated with antibiotics. WHAT A PAIN!!! Hope this helps!

Hi Packer...wow !...yep, thats just what hers did right under her nose, adnd I was washing it with soap and water . Yhen the green puss filled zits looking things came. Its was really gross...How often are the flare ups ?...Is there a sign I can look for so I can start her on the Bactroban cream they gave her ?...What stage is it most contagious ?...Can I tackle it with the cream before it starts getting out of hand ?.....thanx again !

Hello! I can't give you an exact time when the flare ups occur. With me being an adult, it might be different than children. Especially since kids don't have the stress of an ex-husband to deal with! HA And that is when mine seems to happen--when I am stressed. I must say I got a flare-up when winter started--causing drier skin. I guess all you can do is keep an eye out for the red/irritated spot to come and throw the goop on!! It's kind of like colds, you never know when you are going to get one, you just get it. And word of advice from my personal experience, soap seemed to irritate mine more, must be because of the chemicals added. And I found that I had to rub more to clean it, causing more irritation too. Try the hydro-peroxide next time--it seems to clean it better without having to rub.
I hope this helps; sorry I couldn't give you a clearer answer as to when the next fun-flare-up will be.

A good antibacterial soap like Dial is also helpful. That's what my son's doctor has recommended when my son's gotten impetigo.

Elidel is used for Eczema so I am assuming that is what the doc thinks she may have. As for the Impetigo that is contagious and spread if she picks at the scabs. Be sure to wash your hands well after you put on any medication since they aren't sure what she has and be sure that no one else in the family uses the same washcloth or towels that you use on your child. The nose bleeds though could very well be part of the dryness of winter. Do you use a humidifier in your home and one in her bedroom at night? If not I would advise getting one to keep the moisture up in your home. Also since her nasal passages may be dry rub some vaseline inside her nostrils at bedtime to help keep them moist. Good Luck.

My son is a "picker." If he gets even a tiny sore, he can't leave it alone. That means that he's getting lots of bacteria into it from his hands and nails, which, in turn (I'm assuming), "creates" impetigo. If we can just keep their hands away from their faces, we've got it licked! :)

The nosebleeds should really be checked out by an ENT doc if you haven't had this done as it could be a sign of a more serious problem. Also as I already suggested use vaseline inside both nostrils epescially at bedtime. Neopsproin is an antibiotic and to much antibiotics can set up a breeding ground for other bacteria like yeast to grow so switch to vaseline unless your doc specifically told you to use the neosporin indefinately.

Youre my new hero !..heheh..no really THANK YOU !....I take to heart what you said about the vaseline VS neosporin..and het coc had metioned the ENT IF it didnt subside..she said something abt a procedure they due in the nostril...dont remember what its called BUT Im giving Creed til Friday then Ill go ahead and do it....her doc didnt give any kind of time frame on the neo so I just have been doing it when she bleeds....I WILL swab her before "school" tomorrow !....again ...thank you !!

Working as a nurse I knew that this is the prefered treatment for this and hubby himself refused to use it daily at least even though I kept telling him. Low and behold when he saw the ENT this is exactly what the ENT doc told him to do. He still doesn't use the vaseline often enough butttttttttttttt at least he now knows for sure that yes this is what the docs really do want you to use. Good Luck.
