For about the past 7 or 8 years I've been getting sinus infections every winter whereas I had never gotten them before. I have no idea why I all of a sudden started getting them and now not a winter goes by without me getting at least 3 or 4 of them. I usually don't get a fever with them, but my head feels like it's going to explode and my throat hurts and I have swollen glands and am gunked up with mucus, especially when I first get out of the bed in the morning. I always have to go to the doctor and he prescribes an antibiotic for me. After 2 or 3 days of taking that, I end up with a yeast infection even though I take acidophilus pills to try to prevent it. So then I'm miserable with two things, but at least the sinus infection has started to let up by the time I get the yeast infection. I'm so tired of being sick so much! Is there anything that a person can do/take to try to prevent getting one of these darn things??!! I'm really getting depressed because of it. :(

HI!!! You just sound like me!!! it's amazing.. I get sinus infection every single time I fly in a airplane... I don't know why... this year I flew 3 times and got the sinus infection right after the flight... I'm battling one right now and I'm so scared of taking the antibiotic because I GET a stubburn yeast infection... it's hard to get rid of it... I am also taking acidophilus but I don't know if it's helping.... I'm doing irrigations everyday with the neti pot but i guess it didn't prevent the sinus infection... I'm in my wit ends... I don't know what do to either... any advise???

I would use a machine to irrigate, not the Neti Pot. ANd use the sinus packets which you can get online. ALso irrigate about 3x a day when you feel like a cold is coming on, or a runny nose. And when you are healthy I would irrigate in the morning once and once at night just to help prevent anything from happening. Also make sure you are taking an antihistimine during allergy season and stay healthy. No one can prevent a sinus infection 100% but all these things will increase your odds of not getting one.

First of all, I don't know what a neti pot is and another thing is that I've never heard of this irrigation thing that you are talking about. My doctor has never mentioned anything to me about that. I would like to try it if it really helps? Is it very expensive? I'm not working right now. :(

I was actually coming to the board to ask the exact same question.
Seems like there is no definate answer in preventing this infection (which was confirmed by my Dr.). He has suggested to give me a Pneumonia shot to see if that will help prevent recurring infection.
I have had 6 Sinus infections back to back. As soon as I finish my Antibotics within 2 to 4 weeks I get another one. I usually deal with maybe 2 or 3 a year but this year has been terrible! I have no idea what is going on and why it is different this year.
