Good Morning,
My name is Lorrie and about 6 wks ago I was dx with papillary carcinoma of the thyroid. Unfortunately when the test came back, I was informed that I needed to have the right lobe removed. I am soon returning for surgery to remove the rest of my thyroid. Then I will begin some type of chemo. I am looking for information on the stats of what the % is of now getting breast cancer. My gyn dr told me I must now have a mammo every 6 months. I am concerned that I am only 35 yrs old and now am considered to be high risk. Any information is greatly appreciated.

thanks
Lorrie

Hi Lorrie,
Go to the Thyroid board on here. I just had my Thyroid removed due to papilary cancer, I also went through RAI for this I have never heard of being high risk for breast cancer because of Thyroid cancer and I have did alot of research on this.. My surgery was May2 ,2002... God Bless,Marcia

Hi Marcy,
Thanks for your immediate reply. I have been sick for about 5 yrs now. I have seen a lot of doctors who dx me with a million untrue things. Finally I chose to go to a new gyn dr and he dx me without even examining me. A sono revealed a very enlarged thyroid. Needle aspirations (2) showed inconclusive results. I had surgery on June 7,2002 to remove my right lobe. After 1 wk, I returned to the dr for the results. Papillary carcinoma. Now I am scheduled for another surgery on Aug 9,2002 to remove the rest of the thyroid. My gyn called me and stated that there is a connection to Papillary carcinoma in the thyroid to breast cancer. If you had breast cancer and not thyroid problems then there is no connection. But since mine is the other way around then I am now at (high risk) for breast cancer. I did see on the internet that there is an 80% chance that I will develop breast cancer in 2 to 5 yrs. Unfortunately I cannot find that site again. Any ideas. So what cell type of cancer did you have. How are you doing now. Chemo??? what is your longterm outlook? email me if you have time to lmartin9@twcny.rr.com
