View Full Version : Ortho Tri Cyclen and low libido

I am 24 years old and I have been taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen since I was 15 years old. I used to get severely debilitating menstrual cramps so I finally got on the pill. I am wondering lately, after nine years of taking the pill, if it is the cause for my low libido. I know, youd think I wouldnt have done something about it before now, but I havent. It has seriously effected my relationships though. I'm just not motivated to have sex. And my present boyfriend is gorgeous and I love him to death but I just don't have the desire to have sex as often as I should. What are your experiences with this pill and decreased sex drive? What can I do to change this? Are their other pills I can look to or is it trial and error? There is no way I can go completely off of BC. I can't fathom going back to those cramps again but I cant continue like this either. Thanks for sharing...

ps I've also got high anxiety but I think that's just me. I have a history of depression in my family (eg all of my sisters and both of my parents *eek*).

OTC has a high dose of hormones (estrogen) which is probably causing you the low libido. It seems like this is the number one complaint amongst birth control users! A lower dose pill with less estrogen would probably help your situation because it'd be more like the normal you. A pill like Mircette (my fav!), Alesse, Loestrin or Levlite might help you. Maybe even OTC-lo.
