The only way to know is to see your doctor and have tests performed. Smoking-related cancers don't usually show up right away. The more you smoke, the more your body will accumulate the toxins responsible for causing cancer.

Did you grow up in smoking household, or been exposed to second-hand smoke on a regular basis during your childhood?

You can read up on different cancers on the government cancer site:

NO, i wasnt brought up with second hand smoke or anything, no one around me really smoked. But as my parents divorced in my early teenage years, she was with someone that smoked. And i noticed that my 'at the time girlfreind' smoked so i thought it would be cool to smoke too lol...so i started up...and didnt know if there was any chance... thanks for the advice!

It would be great if you could stop smoking. The effects of smoking sometimes don't show up for years.

If you're really addicted, try one of the patch systems. They really work to wean you off the nicotine without the withdrawal symptoms.

Quitting smoking is probably one of the best things you could do for yourself!

Along with the obvious health issues of tobacco use is the economic issue as well. As if the expense of the tobacco isn't enough, when you get ready to get health and life insurance, it is much more expensive for tobacco users. My brother and I have the same coverage, but his life insurance premium is triple what mine is! And gets higher the older you get.
