View Full Version : Anxiety about becoming anxious?

I know this may sound weird, but does anyone else go along feeling pretty good, then start becoming anxious that you are going to start being anxious and depressed again? Geeze, it even sounds crazy to me. Anyway, if I dwell on how bad I was feeling at the beginning of this, I swear I can almost feel the beginnings of everything coming on again. Maybe my hormones are just "dipping" at that time or something. Well, thanks for listening!

Your hormones can cause this. Also, that is typical of a panic disorder - waiting until the next one.

I don't think that's weird at all because I have that same problem. I can always feel my heart pounding and I am soooo tired of this.

Before the dr. figured out that I had hormonal problems I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. What you described is called anticipatory anxiety. What we've all gone through would cause anyone to feel anxious.

Oh Yes, this is very common. I'd heard about this waaay before I even started to have my symptoms. You can work yourself up pretty darn good if you let it get to you. Best thing is breathing exercises and positive thinking,,,,we CAN make that natural 'fight or flight' response (anxiety) that's already getting off-kilter, much much worse if we let ourselves get too worked up.

I also have this and deal with it everyday. Its a feeling of impending doom. Its hard when you have been a very healthy person all your life and then "WHAM" menopause. Blood pressure starts rising, strange sensations, abnormal tests, liver spots and much worse. I have had panic attacks all my life but they never interfered with my BP but now they do. I take diazapam , 5mg per day. If I didn't have this I'd just go crazy. My mother in law is 80 and breezed through everything. I have been having hot flashes for 10 years now.

Thank you all for the wonderful posts! I drive around by myself a lot with my work, so unfortunately I have only my mind to entertain myself. I sometimes think being alone makes it worse. Now when I feel the anxiety coming on I remind myself that I'm not alone and these feelings are normal and will pass! Thanks again!

I hit the wall with panic attacks 3 and a half yeats ago. I now wonder how much has been related to peri. Here are a few tips that were given to me by s supportive dr. When the attack hits, accept it and give into it, but give it a name. He said say something like- "Ok Bob, go on, do your work and hurry up and get on with it. Do what you need to do and leave me alone." he told me to always remember no one has ever died from a panic attack. I found that helped.

Not dwelling is the best thing. It is our active minds that get carried away and have us worrying before anything has even happened. I say to myself STOP when i do that, and focus on positive thoughts. Start to count down from 25, imagine a board with the numbers written on it, and count backwarda. It stops you focusing on the bad thoughts.

Good luck, you can beat it.
