I am a 22 year old male.

Have been having on and off bright red blood on tissue for a few months (more on than off) following a BM. Had a sigmoidoscopy about three months ago. Doctor found hemerhoids, and said biopsy showed I might have proctitis. Otherwise, nothing else. Prescribed some suppositories. While on the suppositories the bleeding stopped completely. When not on, I have pain while having a BM and subsequent blood.

Otherwise, feeling perfectly healthy.

What concerns should I have regarding this? Any advice? Thanks.

Since you have already been diagnosed with hemorrhoids the pain and bleeding you feel when you don't use the medication means that they are inflammed and bothering your. You need to continue with the medicine and be sure to use a fiber supplementn like Metamucil to help keep your stools soft enough so they don't bother the hemorrhoids.

 hi, my middle name is proctitis at the moment. i'm back on the supps but not entirely symptom free. i agree with prev post about keeping stool soft. i had flex sig and biopsies, but no reason given as to why i've got proctitis. symptoms range from blood, mucus, blood and mucus, cramps, loose stool, normal stool, narrow stool. i'm fed up with looking at them to be honest!
good luck

Hi,

It sounds like ulcerative colitis (ulcerative proctitis).

What are suppository meds the doc gave you?

It's hydrocortison ac 25 mg.

I'm still having blood issues and pain. I will try to increase water and fiber. Is it possible that I need a colonoscopy for this bright red blood on toilet paper and coating stool after having a sigmoidoscopy?
