Hi chasbo, and everyone else. I am a 26 year old female. My story is happy now-Im married and have just had my 2nd child. I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 15. I found a small lump in my thigh and ignored it until it got significantly larger. It was removed and diagnosed as malignant--spindle cell sarcoma/nerve sheath tumor. I was told that my form of cancer is very very rare. I have a 26-inch s-shaped scar on my leg from where they re-excised the entire area of my thigh, removing muscle and tissue to ensure the cancer cells are all gone. The surgery was major, and experimental at the time. My leg literally exploded after several infections, resulting in a hole in my thigh large enough to put my fist in. After many many infections, and a several procedures to try and close the hole, as well as several months in the hospital, I finally healed and have been cancer-free since. I have alot of numbness and pain in my leg. I also herniated a muscle in my other leg due to the inbalance of how I walk. But I am here, alive, relatively healthy, a mom, a wife, and a survivor. Even after 10 years, I fear a recurrance. I have heard that it can happen, even after all this time. I had cat scans every few months for 5 years, but now those are not necessary. Anyone else had this type of cancer? or know someone with it???
