Hey Ladies,
Does anyone ever skip their Placebo birth control pills in order to NOT have their period? I have heard that it's possible but I've never actually tried it myself, though I am considering doing this for an upcoming weekend. If you have done this, does anyone know how safe it is? Will it mess up your cycle once you go back to taking the placebos, or are there any weird side effects? Thanks!

There's no way to know what will happen until you try it.
If you're on a triphasic pill, it will be very difficult to skip your period, and you'll probably end up spotting, or just getting your period as normal. But, using a monophasic pill doesn't mean that the same thing won't happen.
It's relatively safe to do. In fact, there is a birth control brand that is designed to skip periods for 3 cycles.
The only possible side effect is getting your period as normal, or heavily spotting.
If you want to try it, try it. Worse case, you end up with your period, which you were going to have anyway.

I'm taking Alesse 21. There's also Alesse 28 available. The only difference, there's 7 placebos. The placebos are there to help you keep the rhythm of taking a pill on a daily basis. I still have my period, placebos or not.

I know if you happend to miss a pill or 2 during your 2 week ( I think) Can not find the instructions pack that come with it, it says to throw out your pack and begin a new one. Dunno if that will help you not have your cycle though. My friend just continued to take a new pack on the day of her first placebo for 2 months so that she would not have her period for her wedding. It worked for her. You can alays call the nurse at the Dr. and ask. or run down to any pharmacy and ask them.

Hey, when I was little I remember my mother playing a joke on my dad. She ran into the bathroom and started fake crying saying I can't take this anymore and started popping her bc pills down the sink. After a 5 minute plee of baby please don't, or no baby it'll be okay we'll work through this. Little did he know they were the placebos. After that little escapade my mother stated to bust out laughing and told him they were just sugar pills. Good thing the man had a great sense of humor and knew my mother had been really bored!! Now somone please correct me if I'm wrong but I "believe" not definate but since there only sugar pills I believe that it will have no affect on your rag. I was told that all they're there for is to remind you heads up chalie's coming. Me I WAS a shot girl myself now since I have a fiance in the army seven states away abstince is my pill no sense in spending $60 for a shot you don't even need!!

I've done it before. It's perfectly safe. How do I know that? I talked to a Nurse at my Women's health center. Just start your first active pill for the new month after your last one for the old month. After you are finished with the new months, your period might be delayed a day or two more than usual. This probably isn't something you want to do on a regular basis, but skipping a period for a special weekend here and there isn't going to hurt anything :)

Thanks for your replies everyone! I am currently on Yasmin, so I don't know if it will work but I'm going to give it a try. This is not something I plan to do all the time if it does work, just for special occassions. I have heard of Seasonale, but I wasn't sure if it basically works in the same way or not.
