View Full Version : Got Fired From Job today :(

Hi guys,
I think I need some support right now, because I got fired today. I'm really sad and scared. They said, "they found somebody else who is better at sales than me". They gave me no warning, and my insurance will be up too.

What am I going to do now??? I have so much debt, and I don't feel good, I don't know what to do!!! I need an income and my parents don't have any money I could borrow. I couldn't even move in with them. I'll even have to give this computer back (its theirs). Disability will take a year to get, and I'm just so upset right now. The first thing I did was turn to you guys. Please help!

I am so sorry to hear you've been fired, AmGoinToHeal! This is outrageous. Unless you are under contract, I can't see how firing you could be legal. What a horrible thing to have to deal with while trying to cope with your health problems, too. I wish I knew the law. I will pray to my God to help you get through this awful time of life. Are you single? Is there a friend that will be there for you? Though they said it was because they found someone who is better qualified, do you think it may have something to do with your health issues? You will have the option of going with COBRA for, I think for 180 days. But you will have to pay the premiums yourself.

Again, I am so sorry this has happend. You are in my prayers.

Becky

Hi hun. As for your insurance, when my husband lost his job and I had insurance through his job I got COBRA. It's good for 18 months. You just have to pay the premium. I know you are saying "how can I do that with no income".

My friends have told me, when no one in our house was working to apply for state aide. There are state run insurance companies that will insure you. You may be elidgable for Medicaide since you have no income at all. I'm not sure about all this, but see what you can find out from a social service office or someone like that. You can also get food stamps. Also, if you are applying for disability make sure you tell your lawyer you lost your job.

Other than all that, if you are able to work at all, try to get something else. Maybe a receptionist somewhere you aren't standing a lot, may be better for your condition. Check out those temporary employment places. I know you are feeling awful and desperate, I know, been there! And it stinks. Don't be afraid to ask your friends and family for help even though you say you can't, that's what family is for. I still may have to pack up and move to Minnesota to live with my aunt, and I'm 46! You just have to do whatever you can do.

Gosh hun, I hope for the best for you. Please keep us posted.

Oh, maybe there is something else at the same company you can do. I can't believe they didn't give you any notice.

big hugs,
tk

One more thing: Since you've been fired, you can get unemployment. And as far as your debts go, if you are concerned about a good credit rating, call your creditors tell them your situation and see if they will forgo any late fees and such. Worse comes to worse (been there too) there is no shame in filing bankruptcy. At least consult with a BK lawyer, it's free.

I feel for you, I know exactly how helpless you feel right now. Try and get as much help from where ever you can. I have in the past had to sell all my possessions and start over. It sucked, but I had to think of it as "only stuff".
Hard I know, but honey, try to sit down and take a deep breath and make a list of options that you have.

you aren't alone.

Thanks you guys,
I just applied for unemployment insurance over the internet. It's weird, I didn't even like the job, but I can't stop crying! They were not nice people, but I needed it for the money.

Does anyone know of any services that give out money to people who have been laid off? I don't know anything about Medicaid, can you tell me more?

Boy, I'm in shock right now. I know this will be for the better. God always has a plan. Hopefully this time it is a good plan, for something better than I can even imagine! Please send your prayers. Thanks friends.

hi agth,
what a bummer. call your social services office. it will be listed in the phone book under your county services. call your creditors. communicate. you may be tempted to bury your head. don't. i seem to recall you were papering your world with resumes a week or so ago, yes? or am i confused, giggle, of course i am!
be careful with crying. you may have to pay for it with pain. i was fired from my last employer while awaiting surgery on my hands. yea, it hurts and it really makes you so afraid. take long slow breaths. you will live thru this. turn the page and begin a new chapter. like you said, something so wonderful you have yet to imagine it.
we are so fragil when it comes to stress. we are glass princesses and princes. see i remembered to include you wonderful fellas!!
from all over the world we gather together in support of each other. pretty powerful.
many hugs,

You sound as though you are on the right track. Look in your phone book tomorrow under the government listings for the numbers you are asking about. I don't know anything about medicaide, I just know it's out there for some folks. So is housing if it comes to that.

Maybe this was meant to be. There are no coincedences in my opinion. You know, when my mom got sick with cancer in April of 2003, I had just left my job that February, although I hated leaving a job that I loved, my health insisted on it. So, when I look back on it, if I hadn't quit my job at that specific time, I wouldn't have been able to spend almost 5 months going back and forth from Alabama to Iowa to be with my mom. My longest stay with her was for a whole month at once, and I couldn't have taken all that time off if I was still working.

Keep at it honey, you'll get done what needs to be done.

All of you are so nice! I'm so glad I've met such wonderful people on here that I can be completely honest with. Thank you for your support. I know I'll get through this, it just truely sucks. I go in and out of feeling confused and mad at God for bringing me such a difficult life (I've almost died a few times, and now the illnesses). I just have faith that things will work out better than I was hoping. This feeling doesn't always happen when I get bad news, it just feels different this time. I feel like a failure. I'm also exhausted.

Thanks for the love out there, those of you who wrote. I truely beleive you are angels sent to help. Thanks for the prayers too. I just have to remember to breathe, laugh at what I can, thank God for the little things, and start my search for another job.

Has anyone had luck selling on E-Bay? I think I'll try that while Im sending out resumes. This is a lot more work then I was prepared to do right now, especially since Im already in a flare up mode :(

Once again, thanks for the prayers and the friendship.

Amgoing,
So sorry for what you're going through. I think alot of us can relate to how it feels to be fired, and how it feels to feel the way we do physically. Like you said, God has a plan. I truly beleive that. One day you'll look back on this and realize it was for the best. Easy for me to say, I know, but keep the faith and it will all work out. All the suggestions of places to call are good suggestions. Don't feel as though you're looking for a hand out or that others will perceive you that way. You need help. Come back here to us, we'll build you up!
God bless, Jen

hi agth,
god is so cool she/he does not mind one bit if you get mad at her/him. i have a friend who sells the jewelry she makes on ebay sometimes. give it a shot. besides if it does not sell you get to keep it.
tie a knot in that rope of yours, turn it into a swing, and fly.
love ya girlfriend,

I am so blessed to have found you friends on here! BLL, TK, Jenn, and others who are always supporting other people while going through their own challenges. You are terrific people.
Thanks for the support! I am feeling a little better today (still a little ashamed and humbled) but I'll get over it eventually. It helps to hear others have been fired too (I know that sounds horrible, but misery loves company sometimes!) I just kind of feel like the only one who ever has been fired! Who knows if the truth is that they didn't like my being sick? I think that definitely played into it a little.
My body is hurting some today, and I think Ill just rest and look into options to help get some money. I just can't beleive they didn't give me any notice what so ever! Just called me into the office and said we're letting you go. No warnings, no severance, just bye. Karma will come back to them in the end. I'll be having to buy a computer in the next couple of days if I want to keep on here. Any suggestions on where to buy a cheap new one?

Thanks again all of you for your help. Peace & blessings on all of us!
