My DD is 18 months old, and she has two stuffed animals that she likes holding onto when she sleeps, but for the past few nights, she hasn't been holding them, she's been using both of them like a pillow. My DH and I were wondering if maybe it's time for her to start using a pillow. Any idea's, or suggestions?

She is definitely old enough to use a pillow. If you are concerned about the size of a pillow you can buy a baby pillow. They are about the same size or slightly larger than the ones you use on an airplane.

I was curious about the same thing, so I did a websearch. Said you shouldn't use a pillow before age two and even then it should be a small, firm pillow. Still a risk of suffucation.

My son is 14 months old, and at about 12 months he started taking naps on the couch using a pillow. It was the only way he would fall asleep on his own. Now he will not even lay down without a pillow. We dont give him big fluffy ones, and I don't ever worry about him suffocating. He sleeps on his back, and loves his pillow. I understand that every child is different, but I think 18 months is plenty old enough for a child to use a small flat pillow.

We got our son a baby pillow around that age, he loved it. he's almost 7 now and it is still his favorite pillow to use at night. It's so cute and has it's own pilow case.
