As a back up to a condom, which is best- the pill, shot, or patch? Or are they all basically the same effectiveness wise?

They are all have a about a 97-99% effectiveness. So, it all depends on your preference.

like they said, it depends on your preference, i've heard a lot of people complaining about the depo shot, that they bleed for months and months until their body gets used to it, that i couldn't handle. for me, the pill was too hard to remember to take everyday. i used the patch for over a year and a half, and i loved it! change it once a week, then the fourth week take it off and have yoru period....but i recently started having breakthrough bleeding with it and my gyno's office said that lots of people have the same problem. today would be starting my patch 1 on week, and i'm thinking abou trying the nuva ring b/c they gave me samples at my doctor's office, so it all depends on YOU! :)

Whatever you do, don't get started on the depo shot. New studies have shown that it leaches the calcium from your bones at a much faster rate than previously thought, and people shoudn't be on it long-term. There are also a wide range of other extremly unpleasant side effects, most of which I (and everyone I know who's on the shot) have experienced personally.

I'd recommend the pill if you can remember to take it daily, I was one of the people that didn't like the patch in 2 mths being on it I gained almost 15lbs and My boobs got HUGE! But others have no sideeffects. I just prefer the pill, take it once a day and the side effects are slim!

I used the nuva ring.. what i thot was that it would slip up around the cervix ..but nope it just lies in there and if you're having sex it can come out (my boyfriend speared it lol) but other people say its good..but from my personal experience *Two thumbs down* it was more annoying than anything

First of all, I admire you for using a condom. Here's the straight scoop - The shot sucks - you can significant weight and get really depressed.

The patch is the most expensive form of birth control and if your partner sees the patch he may object to wearing a condom (besides I've heard alot of failures on the patch!)

Which leaves us to the pill - I've tried Allese but bleed heavily. I'm now on this old birth control pill called Ovcon. I really like it and haven't gained weight and I don't have PMS anymore.

Hope this helps!

I'm not sexually active at all (ever yet), I am just wondering. My boyfriend is 20 and if we were to become active, he knows for sure that we'd be sharing the cost of the pill or patch as well as condoms. When I go on BC I want to use whatever has the least amount of side effects, as usually I am dead set against putting medication or drugs into my system. We're too young not to be as careful as we can be! :)

Thanks,
AS
