i noticed that after naps that are not really sleep schedule, i feel really weird when i get up, like my joints are sore, and i feel kind of lost and confused, does anyone know if this is normal, or what? It feels like my joints in my hands need to be cracked i guess

I've sensed that before. Although, it's not common for me. A good nap is worth money in my book. :)

Same thing happens to me. I wake up and feel like I'm in la la land, and sometimes get severe headaches when I wake up from a nap. Doesn't happen too often though because I don't take naps often. Don't know what causes it?

this can be a sign of a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea, ask people if you snore heavily or toss and turn a lot in your sleep, use a tape recorder if you sleep alone

I think you are referring to being "sleep drunk"...meaning, you slept so sound that you woke up very disoriented, and still mentally asleep. I wake up like that every day! LOL!! Charlotte

I've had this and still do ocassionally. Now I am on an anti-depressant for anxiety/depression it's helped. I can describe the feeling as when you wake up you feel eerie, fearful and depressed, you also feel depersonalised.
My brother also says that he hates sleeping in the day because he gets this.

Is it only after napping or is it after proper sleep as well? I've always felt quite groggy after napping but it's always meant that I woke up feeling much better the next day after proper sleep (compared to when I don't nap)

OMG, this happens to me but only if I take a nap, not if I wake up in the morning after sleeping the night. I avoid naps because of it. I wake up and am foggy, disoriented, headache, almost like I am sleep walking. And my heart feels like it's beating out of my chest. I wonder what causes this. I used to take naps and wake up feeling great!!

You know, I was thinking about this and wondered if it has anything to do with meds?? I take Trazodone at night and Zoloft in the morning.

Yeah I tend to steer clear of taking naps but sometimes I'm so exhuasted from insomnia and anxiety all day I fall asleep! When I wake up, I feel terrible. Sickly, sore stomach, feel stiff and confused... It's such a horrible feeling. Almost feels as though you're coming down with something, like the flu!

Sometimes I get it in the morning after a normal sleep and if the feeling doesn't go I sink a Diazepam 5mg.
Perhaps anxious/depressed people are more vulnerable to this. I've found though taking meds like Zoloft, Lexapro etc reduce the occurance of the ailment
