I wanted to know if anyone else that has back pain also get sick at their stomach? On really bad days when my pain is severe 8/10 I will get really sick at my stomach, it gets so bad I have to take Zofran and Phenergan to help take the sickness away. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or is it just me?

Bryan,

I've never gotten nausea from my chronic back pain (3 herniated discs), but I do get nauseous occasionally whenever I get headaches. It might be in your case that your back pain itself (the nerves or whatever) are not directly upsetting your stomach, but that your brain is turning the pain into nausea.

It also may depend on any meds you are taking when your pain is an '8'. I know that Ultram (tramadol) makes me incredibly nauseous, but percocet doesn't.

I hope this helps. Maybe others have experiences like this.

I've been nauseated from back pain but can't recall throwing up. Now kidney stones, yup, I'll drive the porcelain bus all the time untill the pass. I've had several spinal fluid leaks which cause vomitting from the spinal headache .
You must have great insurance to cover Zofram, it's some spendy stuff.
But anxiety associated with pain is common, and nausea associated with anxety is common. So it's not some weird symptom or something to make you think one of the nerves in your thoracic area may be causeing the nausea.
Take care and drive safely. ;)

I have definately had nausea and vomiting from the back pain.
This eventually led to and was recognized as an ulcer which was from the constant pain meds for three years.
I also take phenergen.
An otc that helps is emetrol a liquid anti nausea.(this works very good for nausea)
Hope this finds you ok and away from the porcelain bowl.
I have had kidney stones ten times with 8 hospial stays and throwing up always occurs.
Take care
Lisa
