Hi, it has been a long time since I have posted here, I have anxiety problems and now I am finding out my Dad has them! He is in the Hospital right now with complications from a lung cancer surgery he had 2 months ago, he is 70 years old and my question is a tough one I think? I have suspected that he has been having panic attacks for a couple years now, the first time I was acually there with him in the emergency room and they were doing an ekg on him and I went in for one when I had panic attacks which is why I recognized a similarity, the Docs diagnosed him with Atrial fibrilation, I am wandering if a panic attack could simulate atrial fibrilation? He had a heart attack when he was 40 and has also been diagnosed with congenital heart failure, since he was hospitalized again after being out for about a week I noticed today that he was VERY shaky and it seemed like his leg would twitch on him uncontrollably, like an involantary small kicking type motion. he is taking like 20 differrent meds and they have recently put him on Xanax and not for sure but was on Prozac for depression for awhile, can either Prozac or Xanax cause him to shake like that and his leg twitches? I had a really bad day today worrying about the state I saw him in , would greatly appreciate any help with my questions that anyone may have? Thanks!

I never took Prozac, but I did take Xanax at one time.
It never made me shake, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't have that effect on your Father.
My advice would be to talk to his Doctor about the shaking....sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thank you guys for responding! I know anxiety can cause alot of physical symptoms as I have probly had them all lol, they are also treating him for heart arythmias which I have had myself and am almost positive they were created by my anxiety, I guess my main concern is that he is taking a bunch of differrent heart medications when his problems could be anxiety related and he doesn't even need them? They had him on a medication for the arythmias that damaged his lunges and there are lawsuits going on right now for people who took that med. I am also wandering if anxiety can cause arythmias? Thanks for your help!

Dear HydroZ28, never guess or think, just ask a second doc or maybe a third to make sure there is no real physical problem. And if there is really no one, than cut him off his medication. You always need to consult a doc first to make sure it is only anxiety and if you are not sure about a diagnosis ask a second or third one. Find out the truth and if they damaged his lunges for no reason take legal actions. If it is only anxiety find a good specialist for it and try (for you and your father) alternate things like meditation and other relaxation possibilities. Wish you both a quick recovery. KlonoWafer

Thanks Klono for your thoughts! The thing is that he Does have arythmias and he Does have Atrial fibrilations (which I believe to be like a racing heart?) What the big question is is what's causing these conditions? Is it possible that these are caused by anxiety?......Doc say its his heart (he had a heart attack 30 years ago) If they are from anxiety does he still need to be on meds for his heart or should they take him off that and try and just treat his anxiety.? He is also taking coumadin which is really nasty stuff, I guess what I'm trying to find out for sure is if anxiety can cause the heart symptoms that he has and if they are the underlying cause he could possibly get off some of the meds he's on?
