i had my gallbladder out (no stones) ej fr 9 %, sludge etc. biliary dyskinesia
still had pain. had an ERCP ( endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) found sphincter of oddi dysfunction.
this is the sphincter that releases bile into intestines.was to tight so they did a sphicterotomy, cut a small incision to open it.
still having alot of pain. diagnosed with IBS following these.
Am miserable. Trying to change my diet, no fat chocolate caffeine
carbaonated bev.soluble fiber etc. Am really stressed which makes it worse.
am trying anxiety reducers/antidepressants. seem to not tolerate most.
esp.SSRI's. tricyclics can make you constipated. Just started buspar for anxiety not sure how this is going to work. Have had all the tests labs CT's hida scans etc. They all show that the liver ducts are ok so sphincter must be open ok. Had to leave work temporarily hopefully because the pain/discomfort constipation is horrible.I worked at a job that didnt allow me any freedom to run to the bathroom whenever. Feel weak and confused.
Has anyone had similar experience. What are people using mostly to reduce stress or situational depression. Diet sugg ?. I also heard that exercise
can make pain worse at times. Or is exercise excellent. How do people sleep at night with the worry discomfort. Please any help would be appreciated.
Also does anyone experience right upper quadrant pain or pain that radiates to the back, esp left subcostal. thanks.

What are people using mostly to reduce stress or situational depression.
For Stress
1. I just make time for myself to just relax and do nothing or
2. Have a nice 30 min massage. Makes me feel good for the day
3. Have a nice swim at the indoor pool
4. Go to a beginner yoga class
Something that does not involve rushing & makes you feel peaceful/relaxed
For depression
1. Talking with other people
2. Do something you enjoy like a hobby
3. Take a class in something you like.
Diet sugg ?.
I also heard that exercise can make pain worse at times.
Or is exercise excellent.
I don’t feel exercise will irritate IBS or make better per say.
However, I feel working out and or taking an exercise class can take your mind off your symptom problems for few hours.
I believe exercise can relieve stress if you are not rushed and it is not overly strenuous and you are somewhat enjoying it.
I myself enjoy taking a class and working out with other people.
Vice Versa I believe exercise can make stress if the opposite.
How do people sleep at night with the worry discomfort?

Hi,
First I want to say that I do have the right upper quadrant pain like you're talking about. It gets so bad that they almost took out my gallbladder a couple of years ago but, the test came back negitive. It was my IBS. I too am a C.
I won't recover the stress and depression and exercise stuff. I just want to tell you about how I eat. I follow the IBS diet that's laid out by Heather Van Vorous. It's high in soluable fiber and started working for me in two- three weeks. She has two books...The First Year: IBS and Eating for IBS. She has IBS and seems to have helped a lot of people. The last book has very good recipes in it too. Hope this helps.
Love,
Jamie
