I am currently being treated for Major Depression and OCD. I am also an alcoholic. I have been sober for 3.5 months. I am seeing a psychologist and psychiatrist for the depression, and have been in inpatient rehab for the alcohol.

My questions has to do with my medications. I am taking Effexor (300mg), Wellbutrin (300mg), Zyprexa (10mg), and Gabitril (4mg) for depression, Naltrexone for alcohol cravings, and Ambien (10mg) for sleeping. My ex-wife and my mother think that I am on way too much medication. Is anyone else on a similar med combination for depression and OCD?

I couldnt say for sure if you're on to many meds. I can tell you some of the antidpressants are used to OCD. You say the Gabitril is for depression, well
effexor and wellbutrin are also both antidepressants. So I can see where
your family may feel the way they do. There's nothing wrong with asking
your doctor to explain to you why you are on so many meds and what each
one is for, not only for you peace of mind but for your families as well.

It does sound like alot, but I agree you have every right to inquire why you are on what. Do you feel over medicated? If so, that would really be the time to discuss it with your Dr. Congrats on your sobriety! Marvelous achievement, hope you can keep it up!

I have been diagnosed with Chronic Depression and I am on 300mg Effexor, paxil, which they just put me on and weaning me off of Repridal and taking xanax as well.
I think some people require a combination of meds and it is different for each person. I am sure your doctor knows what is best for you.

Godd luck, MANK
