for 2 weeks now and yesterday i felt like i was having chest pains and anxiety all day. It doesnt seem to be working. I would love some other options, because i do not want to start back on paxil.

out of interest when do you take? i think you can't take it within half an hour of eating a meal as otherwise the heavy protein in the meal will effect its metabolism.
i've also heard that herbs and supplements take longer to kick in than drugs. can be up to 6 weeks for a change in brain chemistry to occur with stuff like st john's wort. it could be the same for 5-HTP. search on the net for more details. you could persist for longerbefore you abandon it. difficult i know as its expensive as supplements go, but it may be worth it. be patient.

just read up on paxil and what it does. says it restores serotonin levels in the brain. you could try rhodiola rosea for your condition. it is a herb that is great for anxiety, depression and fatigue. also have look at a thread on the depression board that discusses natural ways to increases serotonin levels (omega 3, exercise, st john's wort, dietry measures, aromatherapy etc).

Thanks for the replies! I take it in the morning before work. I did some more research last night and am uping my dose to 100mg per day, and seeing if that does the trick. Today was a better day. :)...Hopefully tommorrow will be good also.

With the 5-HTP I take 500mg through out the day. I also take SAM-e 200 mg twice a day. THese have really helped out alot. Rescue remedy is alos awesome to carry with you for anxiety. You can put a few drops under your tongue or in a drink and sip on it.
