Hey there. I am worried about my bf. For about 3 weeks he has had really bad stomach pains - mostly after he ate. He has had bad diarrea (i think that is spelt wrong) also. He has woken up in the middle of the night with the stomach pains. The drs just told him to take pepto after every time he went to the bathroom. Then last week there was a lot of blood after every time he went to the bathroom. Finally he was taken to the hospital on Friday. We figured he had a bleeding ulcer. But as of yesterday I was told they still dont know what is wrong. I dont know if the drs have any idea whats wrong or not. I have only been given limited information - i guess so I dont stress or whatever. But it is Monday and he is still in the hospital- which can't be good. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm getting really scared. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
ps: in case it matters - hes only 28

SadGirl, Your BF's in the right place. I'm sure he'll get a diagnosis pretty soon. In the mean time, take care of yourself. I really feel it's a lot worse on a loved one rather than the patient. In times like you are faced with, I tend to prepare myself for the worse possible scenario. In his case, the worse possible scenario is cancer. Even if he does have cancer, please rest your mind that cancer is NOT an automatic death sentence any more! More than likely, his diagnosis will NOT be cancer. Just be thankful that he's getting the proper attention. Most men usually try to hide their symptoms for a long, long time until they are "pushed up against a brick wall". The weekend is a bad time to get test results back, get docs and equipment lined up to do tests, etc.. so I wouldn't let it bother you too much that he's still there. Also, the weekend is a bad time for trauma patients and their tests always come first. Again, take care of yourself and please let us know how he's doing. My thought and prayers are with you both. Cathy

Thank you. He did tell me that hes had stomach pains on and off for a while now but never said anything. Maybe it really just is an ucler but as you said the test results didnt come back yet. We had gotten into a fight a few days before he was admitted to the hospital and he said after we got into the fight the pain seemed to get worse. Another reason why i figured it was an ulcer- since i know stress can affect them. But you made a great point - that being admitted to the hospital is a bad time because they are usually so busy. Thanks for the support. Hopefully we will hear something relatively soon.
Thanks again.

The hospital cannot legally give you any information any more unless your boyfriend authorizes it. If you want to know more of what is going on you will have to have your boyfriend sign a form stating he gives the hospital permission to give you medical information. I am sure they will figure out what is going on soon.

so i finally got so updated information. they did a cat scan and found that his stomach is inflamed. not exactly sure why. they ruled out an ulcer. we are now just waiting for them to do a colonoscopy. they are also taking samples of his stool every time he goes to the bathroom. they have said that he def has some type of infection - they just dont know what. they also did blood tests so i am guessing they must have also ruled out cancer then? anyway.... just wanted to say thanks for the support and imput.

Cancer will not be ruled out till the results of the colonoscopy are done. Even then they may have to do more tests like a biopsy if they would suspect cancer. Since the docs haven't seemed to indicate that they think it may be cancer I would take that as a good sign right now. Good Luck.
