 Hello everyone. I am new to this board and was wondering if someone may be able to answer a question for me. Over the past few months, my girlfriend has had her toenails to come off. Not all at one time, but one or two at the time. So far, they have grown back, but every time the one or two that came off grows back, she will lose another one. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I have read all through the other posts and can' t find anything like this. She will not go to the DR and I am getting a little concerned. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the info CJ but she has already had her thyroid checked and everything came back normal. Is there anything else that could be causing this?

Well... so are mine coming off. First I noticed the bid tow on my right foot coming off. Then the third toe in on the right foot did come off. Now I've noticed the big toe on my left foot is coming off! So, the two big toe nails are detached at the side and across the nail, but still attached at one side. I can't get them off and the new nail is at the bottom ready to grow up. I too have had a thyroid check, what wlse can it be? I am a 38 yar old female.

Excess Selenium in the diet can cause the nails to fall off, horses hooves to fall off....
Where do you live? In the Western US?
Some places have high selenium in the water and soil and you could just be one of the sensitive ones who is affected.
Do a search on Selenium Toxicity.

Thanks for your post Anybody. I actually live in Georgia. I have never heard of Selenium so I dont think that is the problem. But I will check into it. Anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks

Ages ago I worked with a woman who's finger nails and toe nails began coming loose. She went to a DR. he did blood tests. She had had a yeast infection much earlier that had gotten into her blood stream. She was so surprised. He told her this could have become an extremly serious problem if left untreated and he was glad she had come in for testing. The pills to cure cost her a fortune but they worked.
