I am thinking about trying an ssri (lexapro) for my social anxiety. My anxiety isnt debilitating, I dont freak out when im in public or whatever...But i do feel it keeps me from having a social life as i should (and want). Its really just that when im around people i dont have much to say , or i dont know what to say. Its like conversing doesnt feel natural to me?? I dont know, its weird... Anyway, i would love to hear feedback from those that have taken an ssri for SAD. Did it make you more outgoing, talkative, confident?? lmk thx!!

I suffer from SAD, and was taking zoloft for about a year. It only seemed to make me tired and zombie-like.... so after a year, I switched over to Wellbutrin (which is not an ssri) and it worked wonders for me. I went from always wanting to stay home in my room to always wanting to be out doing something with people. I was taking that for about a year also and then I had a seizure, most likely from the wellbutrin, so I had to stop taking it.
I haven't been on any meds for 3 years, and I'm once again the shy, akward person I hated 5 years ago.
So to answer your question, I think each medication works differently for different people... the best way to find out which is good for you is to do research such as you are doing now, and try the one you think best suits you.
Good luck.

volcomrxy21, do you take wellbutrin xl, and that really helps w/ sad, instead of making you more anxious? I would love the input regarding this. Also, is wellbutrin sr the same as the xl, only the xl is one tablet a day vs. 2 of the other?

american dancer,
I was taking the original wellbutrin.... I took 2 pills a day (I think 150 mg each) One in the morning, and one at night.
If I hadn't have stopped taking it 3 years ago, I can't even imagine where I'd be right now.
Certainly not still living at home with my parents.
I miss the person I was while taking the wellbutrin :(
I'm not quite sure what the differences are between the two wellbutrins besides one releases itself in your body sparatically throughout the day... while the other one you have to take 2 pills a day to 'even it out' so to speak.
