Hi All

Been taking elavil now for 5 weeks, but 4 days ago my doctor advised me to up the dose to 100mg from 75mg. But now I am feeling sort alike drugged up, slightly shaky, like I am about to have a full blown panic attack. Tingling in extremities and like I want to sleep all the time.

Is this usual with elavil, bearing in mind I have been taking 100mg for 4 days now and the side effects aren't wearing off yet. Should I grim and bear it for a few more days or go back to the doc.

I am slightly scared as one of the side effects of this drug is a stroke, and that was what I was panicking about before taking this drug. Can anyone relate or advise. As I can't get in to see doc until Monday.

Thanks in advance

Evonne

its always a rough ride when upping a dose sometimes effects you didn't have in the beggining surface which happened to me too.If you really are not comfortable return to the previous dose until you see the doc he might say stay at the lower dose or might have you raise the dose slower by cutting up you pill and adding quarters until the right dose is acheived.

Hello Evonne.

I'm also on anxiety/anti's med's, and from the sound of it, sounds like 100 mg. may be too high judging by your side effects. I suggest you call your doctor and tell him how you are feeling, it might be too much for you. Just a little note, I have learned not to read the side effects listed on the sheet that comes with your medicine and to just ask the doctor, because if I did, I would never :nono: take anything!! If just one person in this world has ever had it, they must list it. Good luck!!

elavil is one of the older tricyclic antidepressants, all antidepressants often help a lot with anxiety but can take up to 6 weeks to start working

stroke isnt a side effect, elavil usually sedates so is taken before bed

I would go back to 75 for a while, 100 isnt a very high dose though
