The pediatrician told me at this age the SIDS rate (which is rare anyway, even among stomach sleeping newborns) goes WAY down. That if my son was strong enough to roll over, he was big and strong enough to move his head if he wasn't getting enough air. Scary I know. I still checked on him quite often cause I was paranoid! Just try not to worry too much. Ratatosk 01-18-2005, 05:28 PM Someone gave me a backrest to prevent DS from rolling over. Two little cloth tubes with a piece of fabric in between that we layed him on about hip level. They've got them at any of the big discount stores, sears... Not that spendy. Mary0114 01-21-2005, 11:54 AM There's nothing you can do once they have the strength to turn over themselves. While they're younger, the back ppositioner works, but not at months. All you can do is just make sure that you don't use a blanket on a baby under 1 year of age. Doesn't matter how small the blanket is. JUst put baby in a nice sleeper. BioAdoptMom3 01-22-2005, 12:09 AM I know its scary, but your baby will be fine. The first poster is right about the frequency of SIDS. As a matter of fact, a tummy sleeping newborn has not even near a 1% chance of SIDS! If your baby is rolling he is strong enough to move his head to breathe properly. I know its hard not to worry, but please relax and know that he will be fine. Nancy amandsu 01-23-2005, 02:19 AM my daughter was 14 months old and died of sids in her crib and she died on her back. I know its not the "thing" but i always put my babies on their stomachs to sleep, mostly cause they wouldn't sleep on their backs , but wake up crying and also had a harder time breathing on back. that is just me though. rouge 01-23-2005, 10:51 AM I worried to when my DS starting rolling over on is own at night. After doing research I found that once they can roll over on their own you don't have to keep turning them over onto their back. We use a Halo sleepsack instead of blankets. DS is now 16 months and we still use the sleepsack - it's so cozy and I don't have to worry about him kicking off a blanket and getting cold or tangling up in one. chelle4 01-26-2005, 10:42 AM the reason that most peds have said to put babies on their backs is because of the connection between sids and breathing problems, the theory was that bacteria was lodged in the matress or unclen sheets and those would be inhaled leading to sids. i like the other poster whose baby died of sids always put babies on their tummies, i just made sure sheets were clean and matress was disinfected. i wouldn't worry about baby sleeping on tummy at any age so long as they have a clean, tangle free enviroment to sleep in. ahall 02-18-2005, 11:00 AM Hi ladies, My biggest fear is my 6 month old dying of sids. Shes strong and healthy, but so too were many babies who died of that. She can now turn herself over and I was terrified. I bought the wedges, but she can now kick them away from her and turn herself around anyway. I then bought a monitor called Angel Care. Its a sensor pad that goes under the mattress and monitors the baby's movements. If the baby stops breathing for 20 seconds or if there no movement for 20 seconds an alarm goes off...(that would wake the dead :D ) I have total comfort going to sleep now. I find this device just wonderful, I love it. It costs between $55 - $80 depending on where you look. cattieos 02-22-2005, 12:42 AM I bought one of those on clearance at Toys R Us the other day, for 20.00! i was hoping it would relaly work, our baby isnt' here yet, but it sounds like it does a good job! I was worried that since they had clearanced them out they didnt' work well! ahall 02-23-2005, 01:26 PM Cattieos, I saw a few different types that were lower in price. The one I bought had reviews under it which were all excellent. I hope the one you got is the same as mine, its shaped like an angel. I really am very happy with mine. I strongly suggest them for peace of mind. cattieos 02-28-2005, 11:21 PM This one is called angel something, it had orignally been 80 or 90 dollars, but was marked down, cause they had decided not to carry them anymore! I hope it works too! louisianasgirl 03-10-2005, 01:36 AM If She Is Big Enough To Roll Over Just Let Her Sleep I Know That Happen To Me And I Called The Dr With My First Now With 3 Kids U Learn I Know The Feeling Of Freaking Out Though Lol Hang In There Good Luck Perrin |
