CyberNick 01-18-2005, 11:04 PM The only bad thing I hear about Paxil is that it's harder for some reason to get off of than most SSRI's. It's not like it's some "evil" med that nobody takes. Everything works different for everyone. People seem to praise Lexapro for being a life-saver, but it did nothing for me. I then took Paxil, and it helps tremendously. I wouldn't really worry about something just because you've heard a few stories about it. I've heard bad things about all SSRI's, but if it improves your quality of life then go for it. Everyone has different brain chemistry, what works for some won't work for others. charzysbebe 01-19-2005, 01:03 AM When I was on just regular paxil (not CR) a few years ago, I did awesome!! I was never so happy in my life! Almost too happy!! It took away my depression and anxiety big time! :) Charlotte pinkpink 01-19-2005, 09:44 AM I hear so many bad things about Paxil let's hear something good for once. Anyone??? :) Starfish, Two Words..........Miracle Drug For years, I had dealt with chronic worry of health issues, (i am healthy), anxiety and panic attacks. Originally I was treated with Ativan, a tranquilizer which helped with the anxiety and some with the panic attacks. When I moved out of state about seven years ago it was time to find a doctor. Since I had a fear of going to doctor's thinking they would find something wrong with me I had to think of something else. This is when I decided I would go to a psychiatrist instead. After alot of questions regarding my family and health history he evaluated me as depressed with anxiety and panic disorder. The depression really surprised me because I have never been depressed. He explained to me that depression doesn't have to mean crying, ect. I felt like he's the expert so I will listen to him. I was perscribed Paxil and the ativan. Let me tell you......after a few days of taking the paxil I started feeling so much better. It takes about six weeks for it to get totally in your system so by the end of the six weeks my life had changed. I totally quit obssessing over health issues. It was like this huge burden had been lifted off of me after so many years. I began to ne able to enjoy the small things in life. I felt more joyful. Now, I look back and can't believe the medical doctor didn't diagnose me with the anti-depressent. I have had people ask me, "What are the side effects of the drug?" or "do you worry you will have to take it the rest of your life?" I tell them, this drug has been a miracle in my life so whatever side effects it may have (which I have had none) I don't care because what it has done for me out weighs anything. If I have to take it the rest of my life (I expect to) I don't mind because it literally saved me. |
