I'm 19, been using herion for prolly a little over a year now. Stupidly enough, I made the choice to go on Methadone Short Term Maintenance, after failed attempts of quitting using after rehab. Anyway, i've been on methadone for 6 months, from 55mg, then to 25mg for prolly about the last 2 months. I have two more days, and I am at 5mg nows. The withdrawl is a lot more horrible then I expected. Its really the cramps in my hands, feet, and legs, and the sharp pain in my knees the cause most of the problems. I can live with the lack of energy, anyone, does anyone have any suggestions to feel better. I've been using this detox tea they give me, it works well for about 45 mins then its back to feeling sick again. Thanks

Hey Ant thanks for posting.

I never took methadone but I do know about withdrawal. Meth has a long half life so it takes longer to get out of your system. It's just gonna take time for the poison to get out of your system. Excersize, walking, fluids, will help. Try a non narcotoc pain reliever/ anti inflamitory for the pain like advil or motrin for the aches and pains. Get to a NA meeting if you can it does get your mind off of it and gives you hope that things get better.

If the detox tea your talking about is the same one I am familiar with it has nothing to do with detoxing from drugs...it's more for a nutritional detox. I drank it years ago when I did a nutritional detox with a nutritionist. In other words cleaning your system of the crappy foods I ate and flushing my liver. But hey if it helps you for 45 mins then keep drinking it it can't hurt ya.

Keep us psted on yout progress.

Anthony,
I am so sorry you are miserable. I went through methadone detox many many times since it became my drug of choice. The most bothersome thing for me was the inability to sleep although I have noticed that this aspect does not seem to affect men as much? My recommendation is to talk to your doctor about perhaps being put on clonidine ( a blood pressure med that takes a bit of the edge off) and/or maybe trazadone or something similar to let you sleep some. The trazadone did not work as well for me but I know it works wonders for some people so it is worth a shot!
Hope this helps some! :jester:

Hey Ant,
the only way out of a pain free detox from meth is a very, very slow detox... I do know people who have done it and the w/d was very minimal, but like I said it was very slow going.
Good luck
Sue

Thanks for the Advice everyone. I'm not feeling better just yet, but its only been a day completley off the methadone. If I go to the doctor will it be a problem since they didn't monitor my methadone?
