Hello...I am wondering why I ache or hurt all over my body when I get colds. The last 3-4 colds I have had, I have been achey all over, and it is usually with a low grade fever. (99.6) Last night I started getting a really bad sore throat, and I woke up today with my throat still hurting, and my body too!!! Why does this happen? Anyone else get that way with colds?? Thanks, Charlotte

You are not having old fashion colds, you are having bouts of respiratory viral or bacterial infections, perhaps one type or the other of the flu.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I know that with the last 2 "colds", I didn't have a runny nose at all. The last one I had around New Years felt like a really short-lived flu...but I got the flu shot?? My symptoms were, low grade fever, major body aches, slight headache and scratchy throat. The symptoms with that only lasted about a day.

The symptoms I have this time, were a bad sore throat for 3 days now, (getting better) slight phlem in throat, moderate body aches, and slight fever.

Gosh, I wonder why me and my daughter, are the only 2 out of 5 in our family, that have gotten these ailments!?
Thanks your your input!! :) Charlotte

Some people are more suseptible to viruses than others. During Christmas I was sick and only our adult daughter caught the bug out of 23 people around me.

Washing hands frequently goes a long ways in controlling or preventing respiratory illness. I also use "Germ-X" a hand sanitizer when I go away from home. First thing after getting in car I put Germ-X on hands and repeat while out and about.

The flu shot does not keep you from catching other viral respiratory illnesses. The flu shot is geared to the "flu" they choose to protect the public from after determining which one may be the worst of the season. Even after getting the flu shot you can still get one of the other flus, many out there.
